Designs, maintains and troubleshoots machines and plants that use programmable logic controllers.

The PLC Programmer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the process.

PLC programmers, or programmable logic controller programmers, are specialists who design, program, and maintain machines and plants that use PLCs to automate systems and processes. Their responsibilities include:

- Creating and optimizing programs PLC programmers use PLCs, which are small computers with microprocessors that communicate with a machine's parts, to create programs that monitor and control machines. These programs are designed to make production processes safe and productive.




- Troubleshooting PLC programmers identify and solve technical issues to ensure customer satisfaction. They may also perform maintenance and fault diagnostics after a process has been implemented.
- Visualizing processes PLC programmers may work on ways to visualize processes to improve a system's operability.
- Sales and customer service PLC programmers may work in sales and provide customer service and training. They may also advise clients on how to use PLC systems and possible conversions.
- Travel PLC programmers may travel to customers' facilities to maintain and upgrade software and hardware.

PLC programmers play a key role in many industries, and their job involves a mix of technical and communicative tasks. While formal academic qualifications in relevant fields, such as a BTech, BE, or diploma, are not strictly necessary, they can significantly improve job prospects.
