Job Description: A Fitter in a scrap processing company, such as a metal recycling plant, is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and fabricating heavy machinery (conveyors, balers, shears, shredders) and structural components. Key duties include assembling components, welding, gas cutting, using precision measuring tools to check for wear, and performing preventive maintenance to reduce downtime. Key Responsibilities and Duties

- Maintenance & Repair: Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting of processing machinery, such as motors, pumps, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems.
- Fabrication & Cutting: Cutting, shaping, and joining metal structures using gas cutting torches and welding equipment.
- Assembly & Fitting: Assembling recent or repaired machinery parts and aligning them to specifications.
- Inspection: Inspecting machinery and processed scrap to ensure compliance with company and safety standards.
- Safety Adherence: Following strict health and safety protocols (PPE, lockout/tagout) in a high-risk environment.
- Documentation:



Keeping maintenance records and documenting repaired or replaced parts.

Required Skills and Qualifications

- Education: ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certification or completed apprenticeship in fitting, mechanical fitting, or fabrication.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, 3D models, and using hand/power tools.
- Welding Proficiency: Competence in arc/gas welding and fabrication techniques.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy manual labor, stand for long periods, and work in varied weather conditions.
- Experience: Generally 0–3 years of experience, with preference for experience in heavy engineering or recycling environments.

- This role often involves working outdoors or in industrial bays with exposure to noise, dust, and vibrations.
