About Us
At Cosmo Chute, we are building modular, reusable lunar robotics infrastructure for long-duration planetary operations. Our systems combine mobility, modular payload deployment, survivability through lunar nights, and repairability to make sustained presence on the Moon economically viable. We’re a deeply technical, fast-moving team that believes in real ownership, real trust and in creating an environment where your best work matters.
Your Role
We're looking for a hands-on Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our core engineering team. You'll work across the full mechanical development lifecycle, from concept and design through analysis, fabrication, integration, and test, on our lunar rover and surface systems. This is a generalist role where you'll be expected to own problems end-to-end, context-switch across subsystems, and make good engineering decisions rapidly. You will contribute to systems such as:
- Modular lunar rover platform
- Payload deployment and transport systems
- Bogie and wheel systems for extreme terrain
- Structural assemblies and thermal-mechanical interfaces
- Dust mitigation and survivability mechanisms
- Repairable and modular robotic architectures
This role is best suited for someone who enjoys building from first principles, prototyping rapidly, and solving unconventional engineering problems under real constraints.
Your Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies, mechanisms, harness routing designs, and thermal interfaces for lunar robotics
- Collaborate closely with systems, electronics, and software engineers in integrated teams
- Develop and maintain CAD models and engineering drawings to space-grade standards
- Contribute to mission-level trade studies and system-level design decisions
- Run or oversee structural, vibration,
and thermal analysis and interpret results to drive design decisions
- Interface with external vendors, fabricators, and test facilities
- Contribute to design reviews and technical documentation
- Support integration, assembly, and test campaigns
Requirements Must have
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
- Experience of 5+ years in the same domain.
- Strong CAD skills (Solid Works, CATIA, or similar)
- Understanding of mechanisms, structures, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Experience with prototyping and hardware development
- Familiarity with tolerance stack-up, fasteners, bearings, gear systems, and actuator integration and GD&T; in compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Ability to work independently in fast-moving development environments
- Solid problem-solving mindset and engineering intuition
Good to have
- Experience with robotics, rovers, drones, automotive, aerospace, formula racing or mobility systems
- Knowledge of FEA and simulation tools (ANSYS, Solid Works Simulation, etc.)
- Exposure to thermal systems or vacuum-environment design
- Experience with composites, lightweight structures, or space-grade materials
- Familiarity with environmental testing and reliability engineering
- Experience in working with either of, ECSS, ISO, NASA, GEVS or similar standards for design, development and/or verification
What we deeply value
- Curiosity and ownership
- Ability to learn quickly across disciplines
- Practical engineering judgment and first principles thinking
- Profound mutual respect among co-workers
- Willingness to prototype, fail, iterate, and improve
BenefitsWhat we offer
- Competitive compensation
- Equity participation
- Meaningful long-term growth potential
- Complete honesty with only legally required abstractions
