Job Description: A Chemist for a power plant is responsible for managing water, steam, and fuel quality to ensure safe, effective operations and environmental compliance. They typically work in laboratory and field settings, managing water treatment (DM/RO plants) and analyzing fuel and lubricant samples. Key Responsibilities
- Water/Steam Analysis: Monitoring key parameters (silica, pH, conductivity) in boilers and turbines to prevent corrosion and scaling.
- Water Treatment Ops: Maintaining chemical levels and managing demineralization and waste treatment systems.
- Fuel & Lube Testing: Analyzing coal, oil, and lubricants to maintain machine health.
- Environmental & Lab Management: Ensuring compliance with emission regulations and maintaining analytical instrumentation.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering.
- Experience: Usually 3–4 years in power plant water treatment (thermal or CCPP).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in lab instruments (GC, UV, pH) and knowledge of ASTM standards.
