Job Description: A Supervisor of Loading and Unloading for a Coal Washery manages the movement of raw and processed coal, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality control during the loading and unloading processes. Responsibilities Operational oversight

- Supervise coal handling: Oversee the receipt, unloading, storage, and loading of coal onto trucks or railway wagons.
- Coordinate logistics: Manage and schedule the movement of coal, working with transporters, railway officials, and other departments to meet targets.
- Manage manpower: Supervise and coordinate the activities of the loading and unloading team, including operators of heavy equipment.
- Equipment supervision: Ensure the correct and safe operation of material handling equipment (MHE) such as loaders, excavators, and conveyor systems.
- Shift management: Conduct shift changeover meetings to brief incoming staff on operational status and issues.

Quality and inventory control

- Monitor coal quality: Supervise the quality of coal during loading, ensuring it matches contractual specifications. This can include monitoring sampling processes.
- Manage inventory: Maintain accurate records of coal loaded and unloaded, and oversee stock management in the coal yard.
- Prevent spillage and loss: Check wagons and trucks for cleanliness before loading and ensure proper tarping and sealing to prevent material loss during transit.
- Daily reporting: Maintain records of loading, unloading, and dispatch activities. Reconcile records with weighbridge and GPS tracking systems.

Safety and compliance

- Enforce safety procedures: Ensure all safety protocols are strictly followed, including the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) by all workers.
- Identify hazards: Conduct regular inspections of equipment and work areas to recognize and report unsafe conditions or activities.
- Manage documentation: Handle all required documentation, including vehicle documents, inspection checklists, and safety records.
- Ensure regulatory compliance:



Adhere to all relevant safety and environmental policies, including proper handling and storage procedures to minimize hazards.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

- Routine inspections: Inspect and monitor the condition of mechanical equipment, storage racks, and MHE.
- Problem-solving: Address and resolve issues that arise during loading/unloading, such as equipment malfunction, delays, or staffing shortages.
- Process improvement: Identify common causes for errors and suggest methods to streamline and improve the efficiency of the loading/unloading process.

Qualifications and skills Qualifications

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is often required. Some employers may prefer candidates with a technical diploma or degree, such as in engineering.
- Experience: Previous experience in warehouse, logistics, or coal handling operations is essential, with several years of experience generally preferred for a supervisory role.
- Certifications: Holding relevant safety certifications, such as OSHA or Forklift Operator certification, is often beneficial.
