Job Description: An Electrical Incharge in a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) is a critical role responsible for ensuring 100% availability of electrical power systems and machinery, including Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF), Ladle Refining Furnaces (LRF), Continuous Casting Machines (CCM), and overhead cranes. They oversee shift operations, maintain high-voltage and low-voltage (HT/LT) systems, and lead technicians in preventive and breakdown maintenance to minimize downtime. Key Responsibilities & Duties

- Maintenance & Breakdown Management: Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for SMS equipment (motors, transformers, VFDs, panels, switchgears).
- Troubleshooting & Reliability: Rapidly diagnose and resolve electrical faults, particularly in EAF/LRF furnace systems and EOT cranes, to keep production running.
- Shift Supervision & Coordination: Lead a team of electrical technicians and operators, managing shift activities and coordinating with production/mechanical teams to optimize tap-to-tap time.
- Power & Safety Management: Monitor power consumption, ensure compliance with IE rules/safety norms, and maintain safety records for electrical installations.
- Documentation & Reporting: Use SAP/ERP to maintain maintenance records, shift logs,



and conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on repeated breakdowns.
- Spares Management: Manage critical spares inventory for quick replacement.

Required Skills & Expertise
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of HT/LT motors, AC/DC drives, PLC/SCADA/HMI systems, and switchgears.
- Experience: 5–15 years of relevant experience in SMS electrical maintenance, with robust familiarity with Induction Furnace/EAF operations.
- Leadership: Strong team management and communication skills to direct staff, particularly during maintenance shifts.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read control circuit drawings and troubleshooting tools (multimeters, meggers).

Typical Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering.
- Certification: ITI/NCVT passed for technician-level or supervisory roles.

Work Environment
- Heavy industrial environment (Steel Melt Shop/Foundry).
- Rotating shift availability is required.
- Frequent involvement in shut-down maintenance and capital repairs.
