A Commodity Dealer at a broking firm is responsible for facilitating the buying and selling of commodity futures, options, and other derivatives on behalf of institutional and retail clients. The role requires a deep understanding of commodity markets, strong analytical skills, and the ability to execute trades efficiently while managing risk. The dealer acts as a crucial link between the client and the exchange, providing market insights and timely recommendations to help clients achieve their investment objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Trade Execution: Execute commodity trades (futures, options, etc.) on behalf of clients with a high degree of accuracy and in compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Market Analysis: Conduct real-time analysis of commodity markets, economic indicators, and geopolitical events to identify potential trading opportunities and risks.
- Client Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing them with market updates, trading recommendations, and addressing day-to-day queries.
- Strategy and Advisory: Formulate and communicate trading strategies and hedge recommendations based on market research and client risk profiles.
- Risk Management:
Monitor client positions and exposure limits to ensure trades are within acceptable risk parameters. Implement risk mitigation strategies as needed.
- Reporting: Prepare and present detailed reports on trading activities, market analysis, and portfolio performance to clients and senior management.
- Business Development: Actively engage in lead generation and client acquisition to expand the firm's client base and increase revenue.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field is essential. Relevant certifications such as the NISM Series VII are a must-have.
- Experience: Proven experience (typically 1-5 years) in commodity trading, dealing, or a similar role within a broking firm.
- Technical Skills: Solid knowledge of trading software and platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv), as well as a solid understanding of financial modeling and data analysis. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a plus.
- Soft Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Must be highly numerate, decisive, and proactive.
- Market Knowledge: A thorough understanding of commodity markets, including key drivers of price movements, as well as an awareness of regulatory frameworks.
