Role Description The Analyst role at The Left Shift is a part time, remote position focused on researching and interpreting trends across the technology ecosystem. On a day-to-day basis, the Analyst will monitor industry news, track developments across companies and platforms, and synthesize complex information into transparent, insight-driven briefs and internal reports.

The role involves collaborating with editors and writers to provide data, context, and angles for stories, as well as supporting longer-form analysis with structured research and source gathering.



The Analyst will also help identify emerging themes, policy shifts, and power dynamics in tech, contributing to editorial planning and topic selection.

Qualifications
Solid research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information from multiple sources into concise insights.
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly for both expert and non-expert audiences.
Demonstrated interest in technology, policy, and the broader social impact of tech companies and platforms.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage part-time hours effectively, and meet deadlines consistently.
Familiarity with using digital tools for data gathering, monitoring news and reports, and organizing research (e.g., RSS readers, databases, spreadsheets, note-taking apps).
Comfort with critical thinking, including assessing sources, questioning assumptions, and identifying bias or gaps in narratives.
Preferred: Prior experience in analysis, journalism, consulting, academic research, or related fields; relevant coursework or degree in fields such as technology studies, economics, public policy, media studies, or similar disciplines.
