Job Summary The Duty Medical Officer is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to patients under the supervision of consultants. The DMO ensures timely assessment, diagnosis, treatment, documentation, and coordination of patient care while maintaining high standards of clinical quality and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care
Perform initial assessment and clinical examination of patients.
Monitor patients' condition and document progress notes.
Provide emergency and routine medical care as per hospital protocols.
Assist consultants during rounds and implement treatment plans.
Attend medical emergencies and stabilize patients until specialist support is available.
Clinical Management
Order and interpret basic laboratory and diagnostic investigations.
Prescribe medications as per consultant instructions and hospital guidelines.
Coordinate referrals to other specialties when required.
Ensure timely execution of clinical procedures.
Documentation
Maintain accurate patient records and case sheets.
Complete admission, discharge, transfer, and death documentation.
Record progress notes and treatment updates in EMR/HIS.
Ensure compliance with medico-legal requirements.
Coordination & Communication
Communicate effectively with consultants, nursing staff, and allied healthcare specialists.
Counsel patients and relatives regarding treatment plans as directed by consultants.
Coordinate patient transfers and investigations.
Quality & Safety
Adhere to infection control policies and patient safety standards.
Participate in clinical audits, quality initiatives, and accreditation activities.
Report clinical incidents and adverse events as per hospital policy.
Administrative Responsibilities
Ensure smooth functioning of assigned clinical areas during shifts.
Participate in duty rosters and handover processes.
Assist in maintaining departmental records and reports.
