The Oncology Staff Nurse is responsible for providing protected, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to oncology patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy support, and palliative care. The nurse ensures patient safety, medication administration, symptom management, patient education, infection prevention, and compliance with hospital policies and NABH standards.

Ward Incharge / Nursing Superintendent (NS) / Deputy Nursing Superintendent (DNS)
Qualifications
GNM or B.Sc. Nursing
M.Sc. Nursing preferred for senior roles
Valid State Nursing Council Registration
BLS Certification
ACLS/Oncology Certification preferred
Experience
Minimum 1–2 years of clinical nursing experience
Experience in Oncology/Chemotherapy Unit preferred
Key Responsibilities
Assess patients before, during, and after treatment.
Provide comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients.
Prepare and administer chemotherapy as per hospital protocols.
Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and treatment-related complications.
Ensure secure handling and disposal of cytotoxic medications.
Manage pain, nausea, fatigue, mucositis, and other treatment-related symptoms.
Educate patients and caregivers regarding chemotherapy precautions, medications, nutrition, hydration, home care, and follow-up.
Follow infection prevention and control protocols.
Maintain accurate nursing documentation and medication records.
Coordinate with oncologists, pharmacists, dietitians, physiotherapists, and other healthcare specialists.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain NABH compliance.
