Techniquewise:

Spinal andEpidural

C) Duties andResponsibilities :

The Anesthesiologist should have coreexpertise in area such as:

CardiacAnesthesia.

Neurosurgery.

Pediatricssurgery

Orthopedicand Spine surgeries.

Othersurgeries.

Todirect and supervise activities of anesthesia department in accordance withestablished standards and administrative policies.

Toestablish department clinical work procedures.

To assign and supervises activities ofall the department personnel.

Toreview and forward the requisitions of supplies and equipment.

Toconfers with members of surgical staff and with department heads to determinemethod and type of anesthesia for each surgical procedures.

Toparticipate with the members of other department in planning jointadministrative and technical programs and make recommendation for maximumcoordination of anesthesiological services with other patients services.

Toconduct studies and research program on effectiveness and usefulness of newtechniques and anesthetics.

Toadminister various type of anesthetics to render patient insensible to painduring surgical procedures, manipulation or setting of fractures, deliveriesand other therapeutics and diagnostics measures such as :

Toexamine patients to determine degree of surgical risk, type of anesthetic to beadministered, and pre-anesthetic sedation

Toselect anesthetic best adapted to patients condition and risk involved.

Toposition patient on operating table and administer anesthetic as prescribed bygeneral medical standards.

Toinspect equipment before anesthesia,



to determine that it is working properly.If working improperly, make adjustments or substitute equipment.

Toobserve and monitor the anesthetized patient for adverse reactions, advisephysicians of conditions, and initiate remedial measures.

Tomaintain records of anesthetic administered, condition of patients prior to andthroughout anesthesia, preaneasthetic and post anesthetic medication, andconditions of patients at close of operation.

Toadminister treatment to patients in case of post anesthetic complications.

Toaccompany patients to recovery room or ICCU/SICU.

To lookafter the management of pain after the surgery in co-ordination with the surgeon.

Toinstruct interns, residents and nurses in methods and techniques ofanesthesiology.

Tomanage the working of SICU.

Toundertake patient care in critical area of SICU

Tosupervise, guide & manage the Resident, Nurses and other staff in SICU

Toconfer with the principle doctor of the patient in SICU about planningtreatment and the progress of the patients.

VerbalAbility

Ability tocomprehend verbal instructions given by the supervisor or head of thedepartment.

To give accurateand tactful explanations to patients and their relatives.

OtherSkills

Have an affinityfor teamwork.

TechnicalKnowledge.

Able to workaccurately and with minimal supervision.

Technical skillsrequired for using and maintaining the various equipment and the computer.

Ability tocomprehend written instructions given by the Doctors and co-ordinate with otherrelated departmental personnel.

Ability to plan& organize ones work schedule effectively.

Speaking andlistening are essential requirements to understand and carry out theinstructions given by the supervisors and other related departmental personnel.
