Category Manager Blinds & MTM Curtains
Location - Mumbai
Department Blinds & MTM (Made-to-Measure Curtains)
Experience Level Mid-level (37 years preferred)
Role Overview
We are looking for a Category Manager to lead and grow our Blinds business, while also supporting our Made-to-Measure (MTM) curtain stitching category. This is a customer-facing, technically-grounded role that sits between our manufacturing/sourcing side and our sales team responsible for pitching directly to customers and dealers on technical/project inquiries, enabling our fabric sales team to sell blinds confidently, and ensuring smooth coordination between suppliers, our production/installation setup, and sales.
The ideal candidate has hands-on knowledge of blinds (products, mechanisms, motorization) and is comfortable engaging directly with architects, interior designers, dealers, and end customers on technical requirements. Prior exposure to MTM curtain manufacturing is a strong advantage, though not mandatory given how niche this specialization is — we're open to training the right person on the MTM side.
Key Responsibilities
Customer & Sales Support
- Directly engage with customers, dealers, architects, and interior designers on blinds inquiries — understanding requirements, recommending products, and resolving technical questions (mechanism type, fabric/material suitability, motorization options, home automation integration)
- Support the sales team on project and bulk inquiries, joining calls/site visits where technical depth is needed to close the deal
- Convert quotation and inquiry leads (working closely with our customer care team) into confirmed orders
Bridge Between Manufacturing/Sourcing and Sales
- Act as the central point of coordination between our supplier/vendor network, in-house manufacturing (Roman blinds), and the sales team — ensuring product availability, lead times, and technical specs are communicated accurately to the field
- Flag product, quality, or supply gaps from the field back to sourcing/manufacturing, and vice versa
- Own coordination on order execution: specs, dispatch timelines, and installation handoff
New Product Launch & Sourcing Coordination
- Lead end-to-end coordination for new catalogue/product launches — working with purchase, sourcing, and product development to finalize range, fabric/material selection, pricing, and catalogue format
- Evaluate current vendors and product samples (quality, pricing, differentiation) and recommend additions to the range
- Plan launch timelines and ensure sales team is briefed and equipped (samples, pricing, positioning) before a new catalogue goes to market
- Track post-launch performance and feed learnings back into sourcing/product decisions for future ranges
Category Strategy & Growth
- Drive blinds category strategy — catalogue positioning, pricing structure, vendor mix, and product range expansion (Roman, Roller, Wooden, Honeycomb, Zebra, Zip, Outdoor)
- Work with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure catalogue differentiation and avoid overlap/conflict across our own brand lines
- Track category performance (inquiry-to-order conversion, dealer activation, category revenue) and report to management with recommendations
Team Enablement
- Train and equip our fabric sales team to confidently pitch blinds as a technical, consultative product — product knowledge sessions, objection handling, sample kits, etc.
- Build simple technical reference material (spec sheets, comparison guides) that sales can use in the field
- Support the build-out of our installer network — coordinating training for in-house/ITI technicians on installation and motor/automation basics
MTM Curtains (Secondary Scope)
- Support MTM stitching category with dealer-facing pitch material, pricing structure input, and coordination between production and sales as needed
- Not required to have prior MTM experience — will be trained on our process, fabric consumption logic, and stitching specifications
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 3–7 years of experience in blinds, window furnishings, home automation, interiors, or a closely related technical/product sales category
- Demonstrated ability to have technical, consultative conversations directly with customers, architects, or dealers (not purely order-taking)
- Comfortable acting as a coordination point across multiple teams (sales, sourcing, production, customer care)
- Basic understanding of motorized systems / home automation is a strong plus
- If not from a blinds background: experience in a similarly technical product category (e.g., modular furniture, home automation, HVAC, technical building products) with a demonstrated ability to learn category specifics quickly
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Prior experience in a category management, product management, or technical sales role
- Exposure to made-to-measure/custom manufacturing processes (curtains, furniture, or similar)
- Experience working with or managing outsourced vendor relationships
- [Language preferences]
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication — equally comfortable with customers, dealers, and internal manufacturing/sourcing teams
- Technical aptitude — able to grasp product mechanisms, fabric/material properties, and motorization basics
- Ownership mindset — comfortable being the single point of accountability for a growing category
- Structured thinker — able to build simple tools/processes (spec sheets, training material, comparison guides) rather than relying only on verbal knowledge transfer
- Field-ready — willing to travel for customer meetings, site visits, and dealer engagement as needed
