How this role drives the company forward:
The Staff Engineer, Bioinformatics will lead the development of innovative software and cloud solutions to address complex bioinformatics problems, driving innovation and growth of our bioinformatics initiatives. This role will work within the R&D; Bioinformatics team and collaborate with the Molecular Biology, Marketing, and Operations teams in the development of cutting-edge Bioinformatics cloud solutions and software systems. This role will be instrumental in guiding the teams technical decisions, mentoring junior team members, and delivering high-quality results in a timely manner.
The Staff Engineer role is based out of Bangalore and is office-based.
Approximately 5% travel, including overnight, may be required.
How you will make an impact:
As a Staff Engineer, Bioinformatics, you will be part of a growing team of bioinformaticians primarily focused on spatial bioinformatics solutions, single-cell and bulk RNA, DNA, and immune profiling NGS applications.
You will support R&D; with designing and implementing cloud-based infrastructure and solutions and will bring a software engineering perspective to all phases of the product development process. You will develop and deploy software products using state-of-the-art technologies and execution environments, such as choosing the tech stack, cloud-computing services, and establishing CI/CD.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with HPC systems, cloud computing environments, packaging and deployment. Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data sets is a plus
What will you do:
- Design and implement cloud-based infrastructure and solutions to support bioinformatics workflows.
- Owns and delivers one or more projects through all stages of the product development process.
- Develops and launches software products according to marketing and technical requirements within stated deadlines.
- Exhibits strong skills in bringing a software engineering perspective to all phases of the product development process.
- Develops and deploys software products using state-of-the-art technologies and execution environments, such as choosing the tech stack, cloud-computing services, and establishing CI/CD.
- Demonstrates best practices throughout the entire software development life cycle (SDLC), such as software design, coding, testing, and deployment.
- May provide guidance to (junior) engineers on following best practices for design and operational excellence.
- Independently authors documents, including software documentation, user manuals, and presentations.
- Serves to support R&D;, Sales, and Technical Support representatives on troubleshooting technical matters.
- This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
How will you get there?:
- Typically requires a M.S. degree in Engineering (software, IT or related discipline) and a minimum of 4-5 years of related experience in either industry or academia.
- Demonstrated experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices, preferably using Agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban.
- Proven software engineering experience, in a professional setting, with
- programming languages (e.g., R, Python),
- database management system (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL),
- packaging and deployment techniques (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes),
- HPC systems (e.g., slurm, PBS)
- cloud-computing environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, MS Azure), and
- source-code version control systems (e.g., GitHub, Bitbucket)
- Familiarity with developing and utilizing
- Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) for web-based application (e.g., HTML, JavaScript, jQuery/AJAX, AngularJS, React, R Shiny),
- CI/CD frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, Travis CI),
- computational workflow management systems (e.g., NextFlow, Snakemake), or
- data visualization libraries (e.g., D3, Vega Lite, Plotly, bokeh)
- Willingness to learn and/or develop novel, state-of-the-art algorithms, software solutions, and technologies.
- Prior hands-on experience in developing Bioinformatics pipelines and/or software for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data sets is desired.
- Strong command of collaboration, interpersonal skills, and can apply them with ease in a variety of situations.
- Effective communication of straightforward ideas and information through speaking and writing in a clear and concise manner
