About the Role
Were looking for a Staff Engineer to lead the architecture, development, and evolution of critical platforms and systems that power our products at scale.
Youll own mission-critical systems and drive the long-term technical strategy for your area, while staying hands-on with design and implementation. This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role for someone who combines deep software engineering expertise with robust architectural leadership designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems, and partnering closely with Product, RD, QA, and other cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet the highest bars for quality, security, and performance.
Beyond implementation, youll establish technical direction, drive engineering excellence, improve platform reliability, mentor engineers, and help shape how the broader engineering organization builds software.
A Day in the Life Technical Leadership Architecture
- Own the architecture, design, and evolution of complex systems spanning multiple services and teams.
- Design scalable, loosely coupled, cloud-native architectures built for high transaction volumes and growth.
- Lead architecture reviews and technical design discussions, and set engineering standards and best practices across teams.
- Drive technical decisions that balance immediate business priorities with the platforms long-term evolution.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and patterns, drive modernization of legacy systems, and look for ways to simplify architecture and cut technical debt.
Software Engineering
- Build and maintain core services and APIs using modern languages and frameworks (e.g., Python, Go, Java, or similar).
- Develop reusable frameworks, shared libraries, and developer tooling that raise the whole teams velocity.
- Write maintainable, well-tested, well-documented code, and review complex designs to steer engineers toward robust,
scalable solutions.
Reliability, Security Operations
- Own production reliability for critical systems retry mechanisms, idempotent processing, monitoring, alerting, and error recovery for workflows that cant fail quietly.
- Lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis, drive long-term corrective action, and take part in on-call for critical services.
- Build with security and data privacy front of mind encryption, authentication, authorization, and audit trails arent an afterthought.
- Define and track SLIs/SLOs for critical services, and optimize infrastructure for performance, cost, and disaster recovery.
Collaboration Mentorship
- Mentor engineers through architecture reviews, design reviews, code reviews, and pairing.
- Act as a trusted technical partner for Product, RD, QA, and other stakeholders turning complex requirements into solutions that ship.
- Champion good engineering habits automated testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation and build cross-team alignment through influence rather than authority.
What success looks like in your first 6 12 months: youre owning technical delivery on critical initiatives end to end, youve measurably improved reliability, observability, and scalability across services, youve set standards and reusable frameworks the team builds on, incident detection and recovery have gotten faster, and cross-functional partners see you as the go-to person for technical strategy and execution in your area.
What You Need Must-Haves
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time spent building and scaling backend systems or platforms.
- Strong backend engineering skills in Python, Go, Java, or similar languages.
- Strong experience with SQL and relational databases query optimization, stored procedures, data modeling, and ETL.
- Experience designing RESTful APIs, JSON/XML-based integrations, and distributed system architectures.
- Experience building and operating cloud-native applications on AWS (preferred), Azure, or GCP.
- Experience designing resilient distributed systems messaging, async processing, fault tolerance, retries, idempotency, and high-availability patterns.
- Strong grounding in software architecture, design patterns, scalability, observability, and system reliability.
- Experience with CI/CD, Git-based workflows, automated testing, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices.
- A demonstrated track record of leading architecture discussions, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering excellence across teams.
- Excellent communication skills able to explain complex technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum or Kanban).
Good to Have
- Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies like Apache Kafka.
- Familiarity with observability platforms such as New Relic, Datadog, or Splunk.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration Docker, Kubernetes.
- Exposure to large-scale SaaS or enterprise platforms.
