Role overview

The Senior QA Automation Engineer will lead the assessment, design, and implementation of enterprise test automation and quality engineering practices for large-scale application modernization initiatives. This role is responsible for defining the automation strategy, establishing scalable test frameworks, leveraging AI-assisted tools to accelerate test creation, and ensuring comprehensive regression coverage throughout the modernization lifecycle. The individual will drive continuous quality through automated testing integrated into CI/CD pipelines.

Key responsibilities:

- Lead the assessment of existing testing practices, automation maturity, test coverage, and quality engineering processes.
- Define the enterprise test automation strategy supporting application modernization and continuous delivery.
- Reverse-engineer legacy application workflows using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code or equivalent) to accelerate creation of automated test assets before application modernization begins.
- Design and develop end-to-end, functional, regression, API, and integration test suites using Playwright as the primary web automation framework.
- Ensure Playwright automation remains framework-agnostic to support future frontend modernization decisions.
- Design and implement an automation strategy for legacy desktop applications (WinForms/WPF) using appropriate desktop automation frameworks.
- Develop reusable automation frameworks, test libraries, and common testing utilities to support long-term engineering needs.
- Define test data management, environment isolation,



and test environment provisioning strategies to enable reliable automated testing.
- Integrate automated testing into GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines with quality gates and automated reporting.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, and DevOps engineers to implement shift-left testing and continuous quality engineering practices.
- Establish automation standards, coding guidelines, reporting dashboards, and quality metrics across delivery teams.
- Mentor QA engineers and promote automation-first testing practices throughout the delivery organization.

Required skills and experience:

- 8+ years of experience in software quality engineering and test automation.
- Deep expertise with Playwright for web application automation.
- Strong experience developing end-to-end, regression, API, integration, and cross-browser automation frameworks.
- Experience automating legacy desktop applications using tools such as WinAppDriver, FlaUI, TestComplete, or equivalent.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent LLM-based tools) to accelerate test generation, reverse engineering, and quality engineering activities.
- Robust understanding of test architecture, automation framework design, and quality engineering best practices.
- Experience integrating automated testing into GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.




- Experience with API testing, SQL validation, backend verification, and service-level testing.
- Strong understanding of test data management, environment provisioning, and test isolation strategies.
- Experience working in Agile, DevOps, and continuous delivery environments.

Must have skills:

- Strong expertise in Playwright and automation framework development.
- Experience with web, API, and desktop application automation.
- Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps CI/CD.
- Proficiency in SQL, API testing, and backend validation.
- Experience with AI-assisted testing tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of Agile QA and automation best practices.
