We are looking for a Backend Developer with strong hands-on experience in Django, Django REST Framework, and FastAPI to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services, enterprise APIs, and microservices.

This role also owns API gateway configuration and integration for the integration layer using Apache APISIX routing, authentication enforcement, rate limiting, and traffic policies — and works closely with technical leads, frontend, DevOps, integration, and security teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain REST APIs, backend services, and microservices using Python, Django, Django REST Framework, and FastAPI
- Own backend modules end to end — API design, database modelling, business logic, testing, and performance optimisation
- Build secure, scalable systems integrated with PostgreSQL and internal/third-party APIs
- Implement authentication, authorization, and RBAC using JWT/OAuth2 and secure token/session management
- Own API gateway configuration and policy enforcement using Apache APISIX — routes, upstreams, and plugins (auth, rate limiting, transformation, CORS, IP restrictions)
- Integrate backend services with the gateway, including upstream registration, health checks, and externalised auth enforcement
- Design and optimise PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexes, and transaction handling
- Develop asynchronous, high-performance services with FastAPI and integrate message queues and background task processors
- Support offline-first, sync-based, or disconnected system architectures where applicable
- Write clean, modular, well-documented code and maintain Swagger/OpenAPI documentation
- Write unit and integration tests and support test automation
- Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and enforce engineering best practices
- Work with GitLab, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines, and debug production/staging issues across APIs, databases, integrations, and containers

Required Qualifications





- 6+ years of backend development with a solid focus on Python-based systems
- Strong hands-on experience with Django, Django REST Framework, and FastAPI
- Strong understanding of REST API design, microservices, and backend design patterns
- Strong PostgreSQL experience — schema design, query optimisation, indexing, migrations, and transactions
- Experience designing secure APIs with RBAC, JWT, OAuth2, and API security controls
- Hands-on experience operating an API gateway in production — Apache APISIX preferred; Kong, Nginx/OpenResty, or Tyk acceptable
- Experience with Docker, GitLab/Git, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment troubleshooting
- Experience with Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman, and API testing
- Good understanding of asynchronous processing, background jobs, and task queues
- Strong engineering practices (clean code, SOLID, unit testing, code reviews), Agile/Scrum experience, and ability to mentor

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on backend engineer who can independently build backend services, own the API gateway configuration and integration layer, guide the team technically, and ensure APIs and services are secure, scalable, maintainable, and production-ready.
