A Retail Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing prescription and over-the-counter medications, ensuring safe and effective drug use, and providing excellent customer service in a community pharmacy setting. The pharmacist plays a key role in patient education, medication management, and overall store operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense prescription medications accurately in accordance with physician orders
- Review prescriptions for correctness, dosage, interactions, and contraindications
- Counsel customers on proper medication use, side effects, and precautions
- Recommend appropriate over-the-counter medications and health products
- Maintain patient medication records and confidentiality
- Ensure compliance with pharmacy laws, regulations, and store policies
- Supervise and train pharmacy technicians and assistants
- Manage inventory, ordering, storage, and expiry of medications
- Handle insurance claims and prescription billing when required
- Provide basic health services such as blood pressure checks, vaccinations, or screenings (if authorized)
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the pharmacy area
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Diploma of Pharmacy (B.Pharm / PharmD)
- Valid pharmacist license/registration
- Experience in retail or community pharmacy preferred
