Role & responsibilities
1. Comprehensive Eye Exams: Perform baseline vision screenings, precise refractions (subjective and objective), and specialized visual acuity tests.
2. Diagnostic Testing: Independently operate and interpret initial results from advanced equipment such as OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), Visual Fields (Perimetry), Corneal Topography, Biometry (A-Scan/IOL Master), and Pachymetry.
3. Surgical Support: Assist ophthalmologists with the complete work-up for cataract, LASIK-SMILE, and vitreo-retinal procedures. Provide thorough post-operative visual assessments.
4. Contact Lens Fitting: Perform evaluations, trials, and dispensing for various types of contact lenses, including soft, RGP, Toric, and specialized lenses for corneal conditions.
5. Patient Counseling: Educate patients regarding their eye health conditions, post-operative care instructions, and proper usage of prescribed eyewear or medications.
6. Clinical Documentation: Triage emergency eye cases, dilate pupils safely according to medical protocols, and ensure accurate and timely entry into electronic medical records (EMR).
Key Deliverables (KD)
1. Diagnostic Accuracy: Achieve precision in pre-operative biometry, topography, and diagnostic work-ups for cataract, glaucoma, and refractive surgery patients.
2. Patient Flow Management:
Maintain effective patient work-ups to minimize wait times in a fast-paced Outpatient Department (OPD).
3. Equipment Maintenance: Ensure rigorous daily upkeep, basic calibration, and hygiene protocols for all ophthalmic diagnostic machines.
4. Patient Satisfaction: Deliver high patient satisfaction scores through clear, empathetic counseling on optical treatments, contact lenses, and surgical procedures.
Key Skills
1. Clinical Proficiency: Mastery of retinoscopy, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, tonometry (NCT/Applanation), and subjective refraction.
2. Technical Expertise: Strong hands-on experience handling diagnostic devices like OCT, Biometry, and Perimetry.
3. Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for calming anxious patients and collaborating seamlessly with cross-functional medical teams.
4. Attention to Detail: High accuracy in capturing diagnostic parameters crucial for surgical planning.
5. Adaptability: Proven ability to manage high patient volumes efficiently in a super-speciality hospital environment.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Education: Bachelors Degree in Optometry (B.Optom) or equivalent degree or Diploma from a recognized institution.
2. Experience: 2 to 4 years of active, hands-on experience specifically within a hospital's ophthalmology department or a dedicated eye care hospital.
