- Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) from design stage to successful ramp-up on the assembly line.
- Plan and manage CAPEX for assembly lines, fixtures, tooling, testing equipment, and layout modifications.
- Prepare and control department budget with emphasis on productivity-enhancing projects.
2. Assembly Line Design, Optimization & Line Balancing
- Design, develop, and continuously optimize main assembly lines and sub-assembly lines for heavy construction equipment.
- Perform line balancing studies, takt time calculations, and workstation design to eliminate bottlenecks and improve flow.
- Implement mixed-model assembly strategies to handle multiple product variants efficiently on the same line.
- Establish Standard Work, Yamazumi charts, and operator balance charts for assembly operations.
3. Plant Layouts & Material Flow
- Lead periodic plant layout planning and re-layout projects to optimize material flow, reduce transportation waste, and improve safety.
- Design effective assembly line layouts using Lean principles (U-shaped cells, straight-line, etc.).
- Optimize material handling systems, supermarket concepts, and kitting areas to support just-in-time assembly.
4. Testing & Validation Processes
- Design and improve end-of-line (EOL) testing and functional testing processes for complete machines and critical sub-assemblies (hydraulics, engine, transmission, electrical systems, etc.).
- Develop testing protocols, test rigs, and automation for performance, durability, safety,
and quality validation.
- Ensure all machines meet internal and regulatory testing standards before dispatch.
- Analyze test data to drive product and process improvements.
5. Productivity Improvement & Continuous Improvement
- Drive productivity as a core focus area through cycle time reduction, manpower optimization, and elimination of non-value-added activities.
- Lead Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma initiatives targeted at assembly lines and testing areas.
- Track and improve key productivity metrics: OEE, labor productivity, units per man-hour, and overall equipment effectiveness.
- Identify and implement automation/ semi-automation opportunities in assembly and testing stations.
Industry 4.0 Initiatives
- Identify, evaluate, and implement suitable Industry 4.0 technologies to enhance assembly, testing, and manufacturing processes.
- Drive projects on IoT-enabled shop floor monitoring, digital work instructions, real-time OEE dashboards, predictive maintenance, and data analytics.
- Support the automation (cobots/AGVs), and MES systems where they deliver clear productivity, quality, or traceability benefits.
- Build a phased I4.0 roadmap aligned with business priorities and ROI.
6. Tooling, Fixtures & Equipment Maintenance
- Manage design, development, procurement,
and lifecycle maintenance of all assembly tools, jigs, fixtures, and special equipment.
- Establish preventive maintenance (PM) schedules, predictive maintenance practices, and spare parts management for critical tools and equipment.
- Ensure high availability and reliability of assembly line tools, torque tools, hydraulic presses, lifting equipment, and testing rigs.
- Conduct regular audits and implement improvement programs to reduce tool downtime and calibration issues.
7. Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Work closely with Production and Quality teams to achieve high First Time Through (FTT) and low defects on the assembly line.
- Perform PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Audits with special attention to assembly and testing processes.
- Ensure full compliance with safety standards and drive ergonomic improvements on assembly lines.
8. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of Manufacturing Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Tooling Engineers, and Testing Engineers.
- Build deep technical expertise within the team in heavy equipment assembly, line balancing, testing, and layout optimization.
9. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide strong DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) inputs to the Design & Development team.
- Collaborate with Maintenance, Production, Supply Chain, and Quality departments for seamless operations.
- Support vendor development for assembly tools, fixtures, and outsourced testing activities.
