Job Purpose/ Summary:
The SSH-GWS-Ops-Welding-Pipes is responsible for leading all welding engineering activities across projects, ensuring compliance with applicable international codes, customer specifications, and quality requirements. The role involves developing and qualifying welding procedures, providing technical guidance to manufacturing and quality teams, ensuring successful execution of welding operations, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting customer audits while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, productivity, and regulatory compliance.
Job Description:
- Review project specifications, contract requirements, engineering drawings, and applicable codes and standards to establish welding requirements.
- Develop, qualify, implement, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification Records (WPQ) in accordance with ASME, API, AWS, ISO/EN, and customer requirements.
- Select appropriate welding processes, consumables, filler materials, shielding gases, and welding parameters based on material specifications and project requirements.
- Provide technical expertise on welding of Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, Stainless Steel, and Nickel Alloy materials.
- Ensure compliance with ASME Section II, VIII & IX, ASME B31.1, B31.3, AWS, API, and ISO/EN standards throughout project execution.
- Monitor welding operations including heat input, preheat, interpass temperature, PWHT, and process controls to ensure product quality and code compliance.
- Collaborate with Production, Quality Assurance, Projects, Design, and Inspection teams to resolve welding-related technical issues.
- Investigate welding defects and failures, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with customers, Third-Party Inspection (TPI) agencies,
and certification bodies for welding procedure approvals, inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Drive process improvements to enhance welding quality, productivity, operational efficiency, and cost optimization.
- Plan and conduct welder qualification tests, training programs, and competency development initiatives.
- Maintain welding documentation, qualification records, traceability records, and statutory documentation.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and certification requirements.
- Principal Accountabilities:
- Ensure all welding activities are executed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, customer specifications, and project requirements.
- Lead the preparation, qualification, approval, and implementation of WPS, PQR, and Welder Qualification Records.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on welding processes, metallurgy, consumables, and fabrication practices.
- Oversee welding quality by monitoring process parameters, heat treatment requirements, and inspection outcomes.
- Resolve welding-related production issues through technical analysis and root cause investigations.
- Coordinate with internal departments, customers, inspectors, and certification agencies to ensure timely approvals and successful project execution.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve welding quality, productivity, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure proper maintenance and control of welding documentation, records, and qualification data.
- Mentor, train, and develop welding personnel to enhance technical capability and maintain competency standards.
- Support customer audits, quality audits, and compliance assessments by demonstrating adherence to applicable codes and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure secure welding practices and promote a culture of quality, compliance, and continuous improvement across all welding operations.
