We are looking for an experienced Cloud Administrator with 45 years of hands-on experience managing cloud environments, with primary focus on Microsoft Azure (majority of current workloads) and working exposure to AWS and GCP. The role owns day-to-day operations, monitoring, incident response, and platform administration, executing within governance and architecture standards set by the Cloud Solutioning/Architecture team. At this level, the candidate is expected to work independently, exercise judgment on routine optimization and troubleshooting, mentor junior team members, and contribute operational insights back to governance and FinOps teams while operating within an execution (not design) mandate.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Operations & Administration
- Independently provision, configure, and decommission cloud resources (compute, storage, networking), primarily on Azure, with additional support across AWS and GCP.
- Own routine and complex administration: access lifecycle management, patch management, backup operations, and license/subscription management.
- Maintain proper access control and an accurate, up-to-date cloud inventory across all environments.
- Apply and enforce tagging, naming, and resource standards; flag gaps or inconsistencies to governance owners.
- Optimize workloads for cost, performance, and utilization on an ongoing basis.
- Automate shutdown of idle or non-critical workloads outside business hours to reduce cost wastage.
- Plan and execute maintenance windows and change requests with minimal oversight.
- Administer Azure DevOps (pipelines, boards, repos) and GitHub (repositories, access, branch policies) for the team.
- Mentor junior cloud administrators on operational best practices.
Monitoring & Incident Support
- Own monitoring across dashboards, alerts, and health checks; tune alert thresholds in coordination with engineering.
- Lead triage and first-level root-cause analysis for incidents; escalate complex architectural issues appropriately.
- Drive incident resolution end-to-end and contribute to post-incident reviews.
- Perform capacity trend analysis and proactively flag emerging resource constraints.
Cost & Governance Support
- Manage existing cost/FinOps dashboards; independently investigate and explain cost anomalies before escalating.
- Ensure consistent tagging of resources in line with governance and cost allocation standards.
- Analyze cloud costs on a weekly and monthly basis and proactively highlight spikes or anomalies to the business.
- Prepare and share weekly and monthly cost and utilization reports for stakeholders and leadership.
- Maintain regular connects with stakeholders to review cloud spend, usage trends, and optimization opportunities.
- Apply chargeback/showback tagging and cost allocation rules; recommend refinements based on operational observations.
- Identify and action remediation for idle/underutilized resources within approved policy limits.
- Support audits and compliance checks against governance policy, with ability to explain/document exceptions.
Data & AI Platform Support
- Administer user access, environments, and configuration for Microsoft Fabric, AI Foundry, Snowflake, Oracle Cloud, and Databricks with increasing independence.
- Own routine maintenance (job monitoring, storage/compute cleanup, environment refreshes) for these platforms.
- Troubleshoot platform issues independently before escalating to data engineering.
- Support onboarding of new workloads/environments onto these platforms.
Backup, DR & Security
- Own backup schedule execution and validation; investigate and resolve backup failures.
- Lead execution of DR runbooks and DR test cycles; document results and gaps.
- Manage IAM policy application, credential/secrets rotation, and support security audits with minimal guidance.
- Manage Azure Defender for Cloud (Microsoft Defender for Cloud) for security posture management, recommendations, and compliance scoring.
- Configure and maintain cloud firewall policies and network security rules across environments.
- Set up and manage private access (private endpoints/private link) to secure connectivity to cloud resources.
- Support cross-cloud configuration and connectivity between Azure, AWS, and GCP environments.
- Support cloud threat management: monitor security alerts, investigate flagged threats, and coordinate remediation with the security team.
Required Skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure administration (primary focus); working knowledge of AWS and GCP administration
- IAM & Security: Access lifecycle management, credential/secrets management, audit support
- Azure Defender for Cloud (or equivalent) for cloud security posture management and compliance scoring
- Cloud firewall configuration and network security rule management
- Private access setup (private endpoints/private link) for secure connectivity
- Cross-cloud configuration and connectivity across Azure, AWS, and GCP
- Cloud threat management: monitoring, alert investigation, and coordinated remediation
- Monitoring Tools: Azure Monitor, CloudWatch, GCP Operations Suite (or equivalent) able to tune and configure, not just view
- Solid admin-level experience with at least two of Fabric, AI Foundry, Snowflake, Oracle Cloud, Databricks
- Working knowledge of Snowflake and Oracle Cloud administration (user/role management, environment configuration, basic performance and storage monitoring)
- Scripting/Automation: PowerShell, Python, or Shell for operational automation and routine tooling
- IaC Exposure: Working familiarity with Terraform (applying/modifying existing templates, not necessarily authoring from scratch); familiarity with Azure CLI and AWS CloudFormation would be an added advantage
- Ticketing/ITSM: Zoho, ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, or similar, including SLA management
- Azure DevOps: pipelines, boards, repos administration and support
- GitHub management: repository administration, access control, and branch policies
