Job Overview:

The Safety Officer is responsible forand leadsEnvironment, Healthand safety of the entire plant. This role ensures there should not be any deviation in Plant EHS and ensure 100 % Compliance in EHS Function.

To ensure a safe and healthy working environment by implementing statutory safety requirements, company safety policies, and best industrial practices. The Safety Officer shall identify hazards, minimize occupational risks, prevent accidents, promote safety awareness, and ensure compliance with all applicable legal and customer requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Statutory Compliance

Ensure compliance with applicable provisions of the Factories Act, Maharashtra Factories Rules, and other relevant EHS legislation.

Maintain all statutory safety registers, records, licenses, permits, and reports.

Liaise with Government Authorities, Factory Inspectorate, Fire Department, Pollution Control Board, and other statutory agencies during inspections.

Coordinate statutory reporting of accidents, dangerous occurrences, and occupational illness.

2. Safety Management System

Implement and maintain the organization's Occupational Health & Safety Management System.

Ensure compliance with ISO 45001, SMETA, customer requirements, and internal EHS standards.

Prepare, review, and update safety policies, SOPs, work instructions, and emergency procedures.

Participate in internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.

3. Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment

Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA/JSA) for all plant activities.

Recommend engineering and administrative controls to eliminate or reduce workplace risks.

Monitor implementation of risk control measures.

Review risk assessments whenever processes,



machinery, or layouts change.

4. Plant Safety Inspection

Conduct daily plant safety inspections.

Identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and ensure timely corrective actions.

Monitor housekeeping standards throughout the plant.

Ensure safe storage and handling of chemicals and hazardous substances.

Verify machine guarding, interlocks, emergency stops, and safety devices.

5. Accident Investigation

Investigate all accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and property damage incidents.

Perform root cause analysis using appropriate investigation techniques.

Recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Monitor implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions.

Maintain accident statistics and trend analysis.

6. Permit to Work System

Administer and monitor Permit to Work (PTW) systems, including:

Hot Work Permit

Height Work Permit

Confined Space Entry Permit

Electrical Isolation Permit

Excavation Permit

Line Breaking Permit

Verify workplace safety before permit issuance and closure.

7. Fire & Emergency Management

Maintain plant fire protection systems.

Ensure inspection and servicing of fire extinguishers, hydrants, sprinklers, alarms, and emergency equipment.

Organize emergency evacuation drills and mock drills.

Coordinate with emergency response teams and external agencies.

Review and update Emergency Response Plans.

8. Training & Safety Awareness





Conduct Safety Induction Training for new employees, contractors, visitors, and trainees.

Organize periodic toolbox talks and safety awareness campaigns.

Conduct training on PPE usage, fire safety, emergency response, chemical handling, first aid, and safe work practices.

Celebrate National Safety Week, Fire Service Week, Workplace Day, and other EHS awareness programs.

9. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Determine PPE requirements for each work area.

Monitor availability and proper use of PPE.

Conduct periodic PPE inspections.

Recommend improvements in PPE selection.

10. Occupational Health

Coordinate annual medical examinations and occupational health surveillance.

Monitor workplace exposure to noise, dust, heat, chemicals, and ergonomic risks.

Support implementation of health promotion initiatives.

13. Safety Committee

Organize Safety Committee meetings.

Prepare agendas and minutes.

Track compliance with committee decisions.

Coordinate safety improvement initiatives.

14. Documentation & Reporting

Maintain all EHS documentation.

Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports.

Monitor safety KPIs, including:

Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR)

Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)

Near Miss Reporting

Unsafe Act/Condition Closure

Safety Training Coverage

Audit Compliance

Submit periodic management reports.

Educational Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Science or equivalent.

Degree/Diploma in Industrial Safety recognized by the Government.

Experience

35 years of experience in an FMCG, chemical, detergent, soap, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing industry

And willing to work in Dhule Maharashtra
