Role Overview
The Full Stack Engineer will design, build, and maintain web applications across the front end and back end as part of a small, fast-moving development team. This role requires strong technical breadth across modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks, backend services, and relational databases, with a focus on shipping reliable, well-documented software. The Full Stack Engineer will take ownership of features from initial design through to deployment and ongoing support, working closely with the Lead Developer and cross-functional partners in design and product.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain web applications using React/Next.js on the front end and Node.js, or an equivalent, on the back end
- Design and build REST APIs, and integrate with third-party services and internal systems
- Work with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including query writing, schema design, and performance considerations
- Contribute to internal tools and automation that improve the team's day-to-day efficiency
- Write clean, readable, and well-documented code that can be maintained by others
- Debug issues across the full stack, from front-end defects to slow queries and flaky API calls
- Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and broader technical discussions
- Support the deployment and monitoring of applications, including basic cloud and DevOps tasks such as CI/CD pipelines and containerisation
- Collaborate with design, product,
and other cross-functional teams to translate requirements into working software
Key Deliverables
- Web applications and features delivered on time, to specification, and to the required quality standard
- Clean, maintainable, and well-documented code contributed to the codebase
- Issues and defects identified, debugged, and resolved across the stack
- Active, constructive participation in code reviews, sprint planning, and deployment activities
Required Skills and Attributes
- One to three years of hands-on experience building web applications, whether through professional work or internships with real shipped work
- Solid grasp of JavaScript/TypeScript and a up-to-date front-end framework such as React or Next.js
- Experience building or consuming REST APIs and a working understanding of front-end/back-end integration
- Familiarity with relational databases and a working knowledge of SQL
- Comfortable with Git and everyday version control workflows
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, or to containerisation with Docker, is an advantage
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work well within a small, collaborative team
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn new tools and technologies as the role requires
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
