Job Description

Job Purpose

Monitor and coordinate the design, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of mechanical, electrical and plumbing interface systems, with primary responsibility for HVAC, ventilation, equipment cooling, fire-protection, plumbing, water-supply, drainage and associated mechanical auxiliary systems for substations and HVDC terminal stations.

Key Responsibilities

- Review MEP design criteria, design basis reports, calculations, layouts, specifications, equipment data sheets and vendor documents.
- Review HVAC heat-load calculations, equipment sizing, system zoning, redundancy and system configuration.
- Review cooling and ventilation requirements for converter halls, valve halls, GIS halls, control rooms, relay rooms, battery rooms, cable basements, equipment rooms and auxiliary buildings.
- Review chilled-water, direct-expansion, ventilation, exhaust, pressurization, precision-cooling and smoke-extraction systems.
- Review mechanical cooling systems associated with converter valves, transformers, power-electronic equipment and other HVDC equipment.
- Verify the reliability, redundancy, maintainability and standby philosophy for critical HVAC and equipment-cooling systems.
- Review pumps, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, air-handling units, fan-coil units, ventilation fans, piping, ducting, insulation, valves, dampers and associated controls.
- Review fire-protection philosophy and mechanical fire-fighting systems, including fire-water storage, fire pumps, hydrants, monitors, sprinklers, water-mist, foam or deluge systems, as applicable.
- Verify fire-pump sizing, hydraulic calculations, fire-water network routing, equipment-room protection and statutory fire-safety requirements.
- Review plumbing systems, potable-water supply, domestic-water storage, sanitary fixtures,

soil and waste systems and sewage-disposal arrangements.
- Review stormwater drainage, roof drainage, floor drains, trench drainage, oil-water separation and water-disposal systems.
- Review sewage-treatment, water-treatment or packaged utility systems where included in the project scope.
- Monitor installation of mechanical equipment, piping, ducting, supports, insulation, vibration isolators, dampers, valves and accessories.
- Verify compliance of installed systems with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, inspection and test plans and manufacturer recommendations.
- Coordinate MEP interfaces with civil, architectural, structural, electrical, control, protection, fire-alarm, BMS, SCADA and equipment packages.
- Verify equipment access, maintenance clearances, lifting provisions, drainage arrangements and secure operating access.
- Review builders’ work requirements, equipment foundations, embedded items, sleeves, openings, trenches and service penetrations.
- Verify fire stopping and sealing of MEP penetrations through fire-rated walls, floors and compartments.
- Review piping pressure-test procedures, flushing, cleaning, disinfection, water-treatment and system-preservation requirements.
- Witness hydrostatic testing, leakage testing, duct-leakage testing, flushing, balancing and functional testing of MEP systems.
- Witness testing,

adjusting and balancing of air-distribution and chilled-water systems.
- Verify operation of alarms, trips, interlocks, standby equipment, duty/standby sequencing and automatic changeover.
- Review HVAC and mechanical-system integration with BMS, fire-alarm, electrical control and emergency shutdown systems.
- Review fire and smoke-damper operation, stairwell or room pressurization and emergency-ventilation functions.
- Monitor system-performance testing against approved temperature, humidity, pressure, air-change, flow and noise requirements.
- Review equipment test certificates, inspection records, calibration certificates and commissioning documentation.
- Identify design, installation or performance deficiencies and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Support preparation and closure of punch lists, NCRs and outstanding MEP interface issues.
- Review as-built drawings, O&M; manuals, spare-parts lists, training materials and preventive-maintenance requirements.
- Support integrated system testing, reliability demonstration, final acceptance and handover of MEP systems.

Key Deliverables

- MEP design and vendor-document review comments.
- HVAC, equipment-cooling and ventilation review reports.
- Fire-protection and fire-water system review records.
- Plumbing, water-supply, sanitary and drainage-system review records.
- Mechanical equipment and installation-inspection reports.
- Piping pressure-test, flushing and cleaning records.
- HVAC testing, adjusting and balancing reports.
- Fire-pump and fire-water system performance-test reports.
- Integrated MEP functional and performance-test reports.
- MEP interface and issue register.
- MEP punch-list and system-readiness report.
- As-built, O&M; manual and handover-dossier review report.
