Provides process simulation support for the Syngas-to-SNG project across Pre-FEED, Basic Engineering, and FEED phases.
Develops, runs, and validates simulation models for various plant configurations; benchmarks model outputs against engineering package (EP) data; and supports technology groups in data validation and value-engineering initiatives. Key Responsibilities
Develop and run process simulation models (steady-state and/or dynamic) for various plant configurations — gasification, syngas conditioning, CO shift, AGR, methanation, and utility systems; summarise and document simulation outputs in structured technical reports
Check and verify simulation model outputs against Engineering Package (EP) data; identify deviations, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actions
Review vendor and licensor data sheets against simulation results; prepare technical queries (TQs) for resolution of discrepancies in process conditions, stream compositions, and equipment performance
Support PFD and P&ID; review by cross-checking process conditions, stream data, and equipment sizing against simulation runs; flag inconsistencies and track resolution
Support technology groups during Pre-FEED, Basic Engineering, and FEED stages in validation of data and inputs received from Engineering Packages; ensure simulation inputs are consistent with project basis
Drive and support value-engineering (VE) initiatives through sensitivity studies, alternative configuration simulations, and trade-off analyses; quantify potential cost or efficiency benefits
Prepare and maintain simulation basis documents, model descriptions, and assumption logs; ensure models are version-controlled and traceable to project revisions
Assist in preparation of Heat & Mass Balances (HMBs), utility summaries, and process design basis documents using simulation outputs
Participate in technology evaluation activities — licensor proposals, TBE preparation,
and performance guarantee reviews — providing simulation-based technical inputs
Interface with equipment engineers, process engineers, and technology managers to ensure simulation outputs are correctly interpreted and applied in engineering deliverables.
Key Skills & Competencies
Proficiency in industry-standard process simulation tools — Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, Pro/II, or equivalent;
experience with coal/syngas process flowsheets preferred
Sound understanding of thermodynamic packages and their selection criteria for syngas, acid gas, and cryogenic systems
Ability to critically compare simulation outputs with vendor/EP data;
experience preparing technical queries and managing vendor responses
Familiarity with PFD and P&ID; review; understanding of process flow, control philosophy, and safety systems
Working knowledge of major unit operations relevant to gasification downstream: CO shift, AGR (Rectisol, Selexol, or similar), cryogenic separation, methanation
Analytical mindset — ability to perform sensitivity studies, scenario analyses, and trade-off assessments to support VE decisions
Good documentation practices; ability to prepare transparent technical reports, assumption logs, and simulation summaries
Strong communication skills; ability to present simulation findings to technology managers and multi-discipline engineering teams
Awareness of applicable project lifecycle deliverables across Pre-FEED, Basic Engineering, and FEED stages.
Qualifications & Experience
B.E./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering
8–12 years (Grade H) / 4–8 years (Grade I) of experience in process engineering, with at least 3 years focused on process simulation for gas processing, gasification, or SNG projects
Hands-on experience developing and validating simulation models for multi-unit process plants;
experience with syngas or coal-based processes is an advantage
