At Lam Research, software quality plays a critical role in delivering reliable and high-performing semiconductor manufacturing solutions used by customers worldwide. As semiconductor systems become increasingly complex, quality engineering is essential to ensure product stability, performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
As a Software Technical Lead Engineer – Quality Assurance Automation, you will work closely with software developers, product teams, and global engineering organizations to validate cutting-edge equipment control software. You will drive quality initiatives through test automation, customer issue analysis, defect management, and the adoption of modern AI-assisted testing practices. This role provides an opportunity to influence product quality, improve testing efficiency, and contribute directly to solutions used in advanced semiconductor manufacturing environments.
What you’ll do
- Develop and execute test strategies for desktop and equipment control software.
- Create and maintain automated test suites to improve product quality and coverage.
- Prepare test plans, test cases, and validation scenarios for current features and releases.
- Leverage GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT to accelerate testing and automation.
- Validate software releases, patches, and enhancements before deployment.
- Investigate and troubleshoot customer-reported issues through log analysis, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve defects and improve customer experience.
- Lead testing activities across product releases and development programs.
- Define validation approaches based on product architecture and risk assessment.
- Work closely with development, systems, quality, and support teams across global locations.
- Track testing progress and communicate quality status to stakeholders.
- Drive quality improvements through automation and process optimization.
- Explore AI-driven testing solutions and modern quality engineering practices.
- Contribute to enhancing software reliability, maintainability, and overall product quality.
Who we’re looking for
- 6+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, Test Automation, or Software Validation.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies including Functional, Integration, Regression, System, GUI, and Performance Testing.
- Experience developing automated test solutions for enterprise, desktop, or control software applications.
- Proficiency in programming or scripting using Java, Python, or similar languages.
- Hands-on experience with GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT for testing and automation activities.
- Ability to independently own testing activities.
- Strong analytical, debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of computer architecture and operating systems.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness to work on desktop-based applications, equipment control software, and hardware-integrated software solutions.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience building Generative AI agents to support QA workflows and testing functions.
- Knowledge of AI-assisted or vibe coding techniques for automated test generation.
- Familiarity with automation frameworks and modern testing tools.
- Experience with Unix/Linux operating systems.
- Exposure to semiconductor equipment software, industrial automation, or hardware-integrated applications. (Preferred based on Lam software environment.)

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
