ABOUT HENLEY RETAIL GROUP

Henley Retail Group is a UK-based retail consultancy and multi-site convenience store operator establishing a professional Head Office team in Vadodara.

The India Head Office will work directly with UK Directors and colleagues, supporting live UK retail businesses across operations, store openings, HR, finance, compliance, reporting, technology and administration.

This is not a call-centre or routine processing environment. We are creating a modern, clean and professional office where experienced employees are trusted with meaningful responsibility, direct access to senior decision-makers and genuine opportunities for long-term career progression.

ROLE SUMMARY The Senior Team Lead & Office Operations Manager will manage the day-to-day operation of the Vadodara office and lead the India Head Office team.

The successful candidate will allocate workloads, monitor deadlines, check work quality, manage employee performance and maintain effective communication between the India team and the UK business.

The role requires an independently capable leader who can make sound decisions, identify risks and manage employees without constant involvement from the Directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead and supervise employees across the India Head Office.
- Allocate work according to business priorities, deadlines, employee capability and available capacity.
- Monitor progress and ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
- Review the quality of work before it is submitted to UK Directors or other stakeholders.
- Hold regular team meetings, one-to-one reviews and performance discussions.
- Coach and develop employees while maintaining clear standards and accountability.

- Identify poor performance, delays, recurring errors and capacity issues.
- Ensure Director instructions are understood, allocated and followed through to completion.
- Coordinate communication and handovers between Operations, HR, Finance, Compliance, IT, Reporting and Administration.
- Maintain professional standards relating to attendance, conduct, communication and confidentiality.
- Produce clear management updates on workloads, performance, risks and outstanding actions.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, quality and team productivity.
- Challenge weak work, missed deadlines and unsupported explanations fairly but firmly.
- Escalate significant concerns promptly rather than allowing issues to continue.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and the continued growth of the India Head Office.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience.
- Proven experience leading an office-based team and managing employee performance.
- Experience allocating work, managing deadlines and checking quality.
- Strong operations, administration or professional-services experience.
- Experience working with Directors, senior management or international stakeholders.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Strong Microsoft Office and business-system capability.
- Experience conducting meetings, managing performance and handling difficult conversations.
- Experience supporting a UK, European, US, Australian or other international business is strongly preferred.

REQUIRED CANDIDATE STANDARD Henley Retail Group requires a professionally mature, intelligent, honest and independently capable leader.

This role is not suitable for someone who simply agrees with management, avoids difficult conversations or waits to be told what to do.

The successful candidate must think critically, ask questions and challenge decisions or assumptions respectfully, including those made by Directors, when something appears incorrect, incomplete or unlikely to work.

The candidate must

- Manage their own time, workload, priorities and schedule without close supervision.
- Take full responsibility for their own work and the performance of the team.
- Identify problems and risks before they become serious.
- Put forward practical solutions rather than simply reporting problems.
- Challenge weak performance and poor standards fairly but firmly.
- Communicate confidently with employees, managers and UK Directors.
- Remain honest and accountable when mistakes or problems arise.
- Work independently while creating a professional and cooperative team culture.
- Demonstrate commitment, stability and a genuine desire to grow with the business.
- Remain calm, organised and commercially sensible when priorities change.

These requirements are essential and will be tested during the recruitment process.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

- Work is properly allocated and completed on time.
- Team output is accurate and professionally presented.
- Employees take ownership rather than waiting for repeated instructions.
- Performance issues are addressed promptly and fairly.
- Risks, delays and recurring errors are identified early.
- Communication between the UK and India teams is clear and reliable.
- Systems, processes and employee capability continue to improve.
- The office maintains high standards of conduct, attendance and professionalism.
- Routine management requires less involvement from the Directors.
- The team remains stable, productive and committed.
