Role Summary The Senior Design Engineer will take ownership of key design activities within the Design department, working closely with the Design Manager to deliver accurate, manufacturable, and customer-compliant drawings for both standard and customised machines. The role carries responsibility for guiding junior design engineers and draftsmen, reviewing their output for accuracy, and ensuring drawings and technical documentation meet Prism's quality and engineering standards.

The ideal candidate has a strong hands-on background in mechanical design for capital equipment or process machinery, is proficient in machine drawing software, and is comfortable coordinating with production, quality, and marketing teams to translate customer requirements into precise engineering output. Key Responsibilities

Design & Drafting

Prepare and review general assembly (G.A.), workout, and assembly drawings for recent and existing products.

Prepare component drawings including part, piece, and process drawings.

Prepare tablet and machine drawings in line with customer and product specifications.

Prepare Bought Out Items (B.O.I.) lists and part lists for new development products and job orders involving customised requirements.

Review and approve modifications to drawings of existing products, ensuring changes are accurately reflected across all related documentation.





Prepare G.A. drawings for Marketing based on customer User Requirement Specifications (URS) and technical inputs.

Documentation & Technical Records

Maintain master lists of drawings, new and revised drawing issues, instruction manuals, and technical reference books.

Prepare and update Instruction Manuals for machines dispatched to customers.

Issue approved and latest drawings against drawing requisitions received from production and other departments.

Issue technical reference books and catalogues of bought out items as required by other departments.

Maintain drafting and printing tools and equipment, and participate in arranging their annual maintenance contracts.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

Guide and review the work of junior design engineers and draftsmen, ensuring drawings meet accuracy and quality standards before release.

Support the Design Manager in planning and allocating design workload across the team.

Train new team members on drawing standards, drafting software, and documentation practices followed by the department.

Cross-Functional Coordination

Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Marketing teams to clarify design intent and resolve manufacturing queries.

Support the Design Manager in evaluating customer-specific requirements and translating them into feasible engineering solutions.

Liaise with vendors and suppliers on bought out items and component specifications where required.

Accountability

Ensure only approved and latest drawings are issued against drawing requisitions.





Ensure instruction manuals issued for machines are accurate and complete.

Ensure technical reference books and catalogues are issued and tracked against departmental requirements.

Support the Design Manager in the upkeep and annual maintenance of drafting and printing tools and equipment.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience

7 to 10 years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with prior exposure to capital equipment or process machinery manufacturing preferred.

Demonstrated experience preparing G.A., assembly, and component drawings for customised machine orders.

Prior experience guiding or reviewing the work of junior engineers or draftsmen is an advantage.

Education

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) or BE Mechanical; candidates with strong drafting backgrounds will also be considered.

Technical Skills

Strong working knowledge of machine drawing software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).

Good understanding of machine parts, manufacturing technologies, and manufacturing processes.

Ability to interpret engineering, scientific, and other technical information accurately.

Working knowledge of GD&T; and standard drafting practices.
