Title: SAP Senior ABAP / Clean Core Extension Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly hands-on SAP ABAP technical resource to support the engineering, modernization, and controlled extension of capabilities not delivered through standard SAP S/4HANA RISE functionality. This role is focused on designing and developing scalable, supportable, clean-core-aligned technical solutions across SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP environments.

The ideal candidate brings deep ABAP development expertise combined with practical experience designing enterprise-grade custom capabilities, integrations, APIs, workflows, enhancements, and modernization strategies in complex SAP landscapes. This is not a traditional support or enhancement role. The resource will help engineer strategic business capabilities where standard SAP functionality does not sufficiently address operational, integration, reporting, automation, or process requirements.

The consultant must be comfortable operating directly with architects, functional teams, integration leads, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions aligned to SAP best practices and Clean Core principles.

Core Responsibilities

Custom Capability Engineering

- Design and develop custom SAP capabilities where standard SAP S/4HANA functionality does not meet business requirements
- Engineer scalable and maintainable solutions aligned to SAP Clean Core principles

ABAP Development & Modernization

- Perform hands-on ABAP development across:

- Reports

- Enhancements

- Interfaces

- Conversions

- Forms

- Workflows

- APIs

- CDS Views

- OData services
- RAP-based services
- Refactor legacy ECC custom objects for S/4HANA compatibility
- Support HANA-optimized development approaches
- Perform custom code remediation and modernization using ATC findings and S/4 simplification impacts
- Develop secure, performant, enterprise-grade technical solutions.

Integration & Technical Architecture

- Design and support integration patterns between SAP and non-SAP platforms
- Build and support APIs, IDocs, proxy interfaces, REST services, event-based integrations, and middleware integrations
- Collaborate with SAP Integration Suite and middleware teams on technical integration strategies
- Assist with interface troubleshooting, monitoring, and optimization.





Clean Core & Extensibility Governance

- Support Clean Core governance and extension strategy discussions
- Help classify custom objects into:

- Retire

- Replace with standard

- Extend via approved extensibility

- Remediate for S/4 compatibility
- Participate in technical design reviews and architecture governance
- Document technical debt, extension risks, and modernization opportunities

Required Qualifications

- 8+ years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience
- Multiple SAP S/4HANA implementation or conversion experiences

- SmartForms/Adobe Forms

- SAP workflows

- Performance tuning
- Experience supporting S/4HANA remediation and HANA-optimized development
- Solid understanding of SAP Clean Core concepts and extensibility models
- Experience working in complex global SAP environments
- Ability to independently troubleshoot and engineer technical solutions
- Strong communication and workshop participation skills

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with SAP BTP extension development
- RAP model experience
- SAP Integration Suite exposure
- Experience with event-driven architectures
- Experience modernizing ECC custom solutions into S/4HANA-compatible architectures
- Familiarity with SAP Cloud ALM or Solution Manager
- Experience supporting global template programs
- Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, and transport governance practices
