1. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the Factories Act, State Factory Rules, and applicable occupational safety regulations.
- Maintain all statutory safety records, registers, and licenses.
- Coordinate with government authorities during inspections.
1. Risk Assessment
- Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) for all departments.
- Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Review risk assessments whenever processes or equipment change.
1. Safety Inspections
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections.
- Monitor housekeeping standards and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure machine guards and safety interlocks are functioning properly.
1. Accident Investigation
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences.
- Identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accident and incident records.
1. Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety induction training for new employees and contractors.
- Organize periodic safety training on:
- Fire safety
- First aid
- Electrical safety
- Chemical handling
- PPE usage
- Manual material handling
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness campaigns.
1. Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and update emergency response plans.
- Organize mock drills for:
- Fire emergencies
- Ammonia gas leakage
- Chemical spills
- Medical emergencies
- Coordinate with emergency response teams.
1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Identify PPE requirements for each department.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE.
- Monitor PPE compliance across the plant.
1. Chemical Safety
- Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals such as:
- Ammonia
- Caustic Soda
- Nitric Acid
- Sanitizers
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Verify proper labeling of all chemical containers.
1. Food Industry Safety
- Ensure safe operation of:
- Boilers
- Refrigeration systems
- Ammonia plants
- Air compressors
- Electrical installations
- Monitor confined space entry and work-at-height activities.
1. Contractor Safety
- Issue work permits (Hot Work, Height Work, Confined Space, Electrical Isolation).
- Conduct contractor safety inductions.
- Monitor contractor compliance with safety requirements.
1. Health Surveillance
- Coordinate pre-employment and periodic medical examinations.
- Monitor occupational health risks.
- Maintain employee health records.
1. Fire Protection
- Inspect fire extinguishers, hydrants, alarms, and emergency exits.
- Ensure firefighting equipment is in serviceable condition.
- Coordinate fire safety audits and drills.
1. Safety Committee
- Organize monthly safety committee meetings.
- Track closure of safety observations and action items.
- Prepare safety performance reports for management.
1. Safety Performance Monitoring
- Monitor key safety indicators such as:
- Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR)
- Near-miss reporting
- Unsafe acts and unsafe conditions
- Training completion
- PPE compliance
- Submit monthly safety reports to management.
1. Continuous Improvement
- Promote a solid safety culture throughout the organization.
- Implement safety improvement projects and employee engagement initiatives.
- Support ISO 45001, FSSC 22000, and other management system audits where applicable.
