A Patching and Lining technician (Refractory Technician/Mason) in a steel company is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining the heat-resistant linings in high-temperature vessels such as furnaces, ladles, and converters. Core Responsibilities and Duties

- Refractory Installation (Lining): Installing recent refractory bricks, castables, or ceramic fibers in furnaces, ladles, and tundishes.

- Repair and Maintenance (Patching): Performing hot and cold gunning repairs to repair worn-out linings, particularly in high-wear zones of BOF converters and ladles.

- Delining/Demolition: Safely removing old or damaged refractory linings using mechanical equipment like jackhammers and pneumatic chisels.

- Surface Preparation: Cleaning and preparing steel surfaces to ensure proper adhesion of new lining materials, including sandblasting.

- Equipment Operation: Operating machinery such as concrete mixers, gunning machines, and pneumatic tools.

- Monitoring and Inspection: Inspecting lining conditions, monitoring shell temperatures, and detecting hot spots to plan maintenance.

Key Skills and Qualifications

- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of refractory materials (bricks, monolithic, alumina spinel) and their application techniques.

- Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret refractory drawings and installation patterns.
