Job Description –

L3 Systems Administrator/Engineer — Service Rail

The L3 Systems Administrator/Engineer supports day-to-day operations of the Service Rail workplace, with a primary focus on application health, remote access infrastructure, endpoint protection, and logging platforms. This role operates within a heavily regulated enterprise environment and demands a generalist who owns problems through resolution — not one who routes issues to another team at the first sign of complexity.

Responsibilities

- The L3 engineer administers and troubleshoots the remote access application stack — RDP, VNC, SSH, Zscaler, and related tooling — ensuring availability, connectivity, and proper configuration across supported sites and endpoints.
- The role manages antivirus and endpoint protection platforms including policy enforcement, definition management, alert triage, and coordination with security teams on remediation. The engineer supports logging and monitoring platforms including SolarWinds, validates log ingestion, addresses collection gaps, and escalates anomalies per defined procedures in coordination with the broader monitoring team.
- Day-to-day work includes OS administration and patching on Windows and Linux systems, application configuration, and end-to-end troubleshooting that spans the OS, application, and connectivity layers.
- The L3 engineer supports SaaS platform administration — managing user access, configurations, and integrations — and works within AWS-hosted components of the environment, including basic instance management, storage, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- The role interfaces with identity and access management platforms such as PingID and supports certificate lifecycle management including renewals, deployments,

and troubleshooting certificate-related failures.
- The L3 engineer works alongside network teams on Cisco ISE-related issues — supporting device authentication, posture assessment troubleshooting, and access policy enforcement — engaging those teams directly rather than stopping at the technology boundary.
- The engineer manages vendor and OEM support cases and drives those cases to closure.
- The L3 engineer actively identifies opportunities to reduce manual effort through automation — scripting repetitive tasks, contributing to playbook development, and supporting automation tools introduced by L4.
- The role contributes to DR planning activities including documentation, testing participation, and runbook maintenance.
- Regular reporting on ticket status, system health, and operational metrics is a standing responsibility.
- All work is performed in compliance with regulatory and security requirements, including change control discipline, access management standards, and audit trail maintenance.
- Supported sites span multiple countries across different time zones. The L3 engineer provides coverage aligned to site business hours by geography and participates in maintenance windows that fall outside standard working hours. Scheduling flexibility is a firm requirement of this role.
- All work is tracked and executed through ServiceNow within defined SLAs, following ITIL-aligned incident, request, and change processes.

Requirements

- 3+ years of systems administration experience across Windows Server and Linux (RHEL/CentOS preferred). Hands-on experience administering remote access and secure access platforms — RDP, VNC, SSH, Zscaler, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with enterprise endpoint protection and logging/SIEM tooling including SolarWinds.
- Working knowledge of Cisco ISE sufficient to support access policy troubleshooting and participate in joint remediation with network teams.
- Experience with identity and access management platforms such as PingID or equivalent MFA and SSO technologies.
- Working knowledge of PKI and certificate lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of AWS services at an operational level.
- Experience supporting SaaS platforms including user provisioning, configuration management, and integration troubleshooting.
- Scripting ability in PowerShell, Bash, or Python sufficient to automate routine tasks.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP administration.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals sufficient to participate in cross-team troubleshooting.
- Experience contributing to DR planning, testing, and documentation.
- Ability to produce clear operational reports on system health, ticket trends, and service metrics.
- Experience working in a regulated environment with familiarity in at least one compliance framework such as NIST SP 800-171, ISO 27001, or equivalent.
- Experience with ServiceNow or equivalent ITSM platform. ITIL Foundation or equivalent working knowledge.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends to support global site coverage and scheduled maintenance windows.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for vendor coordination and customer-facing interactions.
