Role Overview

We're looking for a sharp, structured problem-solver to join the Strategy & Special Projects team embedded in the CXO's office for Paytm's SMB (merchant payments) business — one of the largest and fastest-moving verticals in the company. This team functions as the strategic nerve centre for the business: working directly with leadership to shape priorities, pressure-test the logic behind major bets, drive the highest-leverage initiatives from idea to impact, and periodically run audits to ensure the business stays sound as it scales.

You'll operate on a rotating portfolio of strategic reviews, audits, and value-creation projects — effectively running a series of mini-consulting engagements at the centre of the business, each feeding directly into decisions made by SMB leadership. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role for someone early in their career who wants exposure to the full breadth of a large fintech business, direct access to senior leadership, and a real hand in shaping how the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Diagnostics & Business Reviews

- Partner closely with SMB leadership to independently evaluate the logic, assumptions, and expected impact of major proposed and in-flight initiatives
- Build the cost and P&L; view for key bets, stress-testing whether the economics justify the investment — acting as a trusted, objective sounding board for leadership

2. Audits & Governance





- Participate in periodic audits of processes, structures, and controls across the SMB business, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and compliance risks
- Track whether audit recommendations are implemented and whether they deliver the intended effect, closing the loop with relevant stakeholders

3. Value Creation & Special Projects

- Identify and drive high-priority improvement opportunities across process, structure, and unit economics for the business
- Track execution of leadership-backed recommendations and measure whether they deliver the intended impact

4. End-to-End Project Ownership

- Own delivery of assigned strategic projects and audits — scoping, data gathering, analysis, synthesis, and recommendations — with direct visibility to leadership
- Structure ambiguous, zero-to-one problems into clear workplans with minimal supervision
- Produce crisp, leadership-ready outputs (decks, memos, dashboards) that directly inform business decisions

5. Cross-Functional & Leadership Engagement

- Work closely with Business, Product, Operations, Compliance, and Tech leaders to gather inputs, pressure-test ideas, and socialize findings
- Represent the CXO's office in cross-functional forums, building credibility as an honest broker across teams

Requirements

- Solid analytical and financial acumen — comfortable with P&L; logic, unit economics, and building models from scratch
- Structured problem-solving ability, with comfort operating in ambiguity across a rotating set of strategic problems and audits
- Excellent communication and executive presentation skills; ability to hold your own in a room with senior leadership

Skills & Competencies

- Advanced proficiency in Excel; working knowledge of SQL and/or Python preferred for handling large datasets
- Ability to independently scope and drive analytical projects and audits end-to-end, from ambiguity to a leadership-ready answer
- High ownership, intellectual honesty, and the maturity to deliver objective, sometimes uncomfortable findings to senior stakeholders
- Exposure to payments, lending, or fintech businesses is an advantage
