About the Company
Our client is a leading global automotive component manufacturer with a strong presence in advanced mobility solutions. The organization is expanding its manufacturing footprint in India through a strategic Brownfield project focused on high-volume electromechanical product manufacturing. The company offers an opportunity to lead manufacturing engineering initiatives in a technologically advanced and highly automated production environment.
Role Summary
The Head Manufacturing Engineering will be responsible for leading the Manufacturing Engineering function for a Brownfield expansion project. The role will drive end-to-end manufacturing engineering activities, including plant layout development, manufacturing process design, machine specification and development, assembly line engineering, automation, and industrialization of current products. The incumbent will play a key role in establishing efficient, scalable, and lean manufacturing systems for assembly and sub-assembly operations while ensuring world-class standards in quality, productivity, safety, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Engineering Leadership
- Lead the Manufacturing Engineering function for Brownfield expansion and capacity enhancement projects.
- Develop manufacturing strategies aligned with business growth, operational excellence, and future capacity requirements.
- Drive engineering excellence across manufacturing process development and production readiness.
Brownfield Project Execution
- Lead planning and execution of Brownfield manufacturing projects from concept through production.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Production, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Product Engineering teams to ensure timely execution.
- Manage engineering deliverables, project timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation.
Plant Layout & Facility Engineering
- Develop optimized plant layouts considering material flow, line balancing, operator ergonomics, safety, logistics, and future expansion.
- Design layouts for assembly, sub-assembly, testing, inspection, and packaging operations.
- Improve facility utilization through efficient space planning and lean manufacturing principles.
Manufacturing Process Development
- Develop robust manufacturing processes for high-volume assembly and sub-assembly operations.
- Define process flow, cycle time, takt time, workstation design, and line balancing.
- Develop Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, Standard Operating Procedures, and Work Instructions.
- Ensure manufacturing processes achieve required quality, productivity, and cost targets.
Machine Design & Equipment Engineering
- Define machine concepts and technical specifications based on manufacturing requirements.
- Lead development of Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), assembly fixtures, tooling, jigs, gauges, and testing equipment in collaboration with machine builders.
- Conduct design reviews and ensure equipment meets production, quality, maintainability, and safety requirements.
- Lead equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and production ramp-up.
Automation & Industrial Engineering
- Identify and implement automation opportunities across manufacturing operations.
- Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), productivity, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Drive manpower optimization through automation and process improvements.
- Implement lean manufacturing and industrial engineering practices to eliminate waste and improve operational performance.
New Product Industrialization
- Support new product introduction from design validation through mass production.
- Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews.
- Ensure smooth production launch through process validation and manufacturing readiness.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive Value Engineering (VE), Value Analysis (VA), Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Improve cycle time, line efficiency, equipment utilization, and manufacturing quality.
- Lead continuous improvement projects to enhance productivity and operational excellence.
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Production, Procurement, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and external machine suppliers.
- Provide technical leadership to manufacturing engineering teams and mentor engineering professionals.
- Support global engineering initiatives and technology transfer where applicable.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
- 20+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience within the automotive or automotive component industry.
- Proven experience leading Brownfield plant expansion or manufacturing capacity enhancement projects.
- Strong expertise in manufacturing layouts, production line design, and assembly process development.
- Hands-on experience in machine design, SPM development, tooling, fixtures, gauges, and manufacturing automation.
- Extensive exposure to high-volume assembly and sub-assembly manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of Industrial Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Current Product Introduction (NPI).
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional engineering teams and manage external equipment suppliers and automation partners.
