Key Account Manager (KAM)

Location

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Reporting To

Regional Operations Manager / General Manager Operations

Purpose of the Role The Key Account Manager is responsible for managing the end-to-end relationship with a strategic customer engaged in the manufacturing of earth-moving equipment. The role ensures seamless delivery of in-plant logistics services while achieving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, contractual compliance, continuous improvement, and business growth.

The KAM serves as the single point of contact between the customer and the company's operations, ensuring service levels meet or exceed agreed KPIs.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Relationship Management

Act as the primary interface between the customer and the company.

Build strong relationships with customer leadership and cross-functional teams.

Conduct regular operational and business review meetings.

Resolve customer concerns proactively and ensure timely closure.

Maintain high customer satisfaction through responsive service delivery.

Operations Management

Lead end-to-end in-plant logistics operations.

Ensure uninterrupted material flow to production lines.

Monitor manpower, equipment, and process efficiency.

Ensure adherence to agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Drive operational discipline across all shifts.

Performance Management

Monitor and improve key performance indicators including:

Line feeding performance

On-time material availability

Inventory accuracy

Productivity

Cost per unit handled

Equipment utilization

Safety performance

Quality compliance

Customer complaint closure

Service level adherence

Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities for cost reduction and productivity enhancement.

Implement Lean, Kaizen, 5S, and process improvement initiatives.

Eliminate operational waste and improve workflow efficiency.





Lead automation and digitalization initiatives where feasible.

Financial Management

Manage the account P&L.;

Monitor operational costs against budget.

Improve profitability through productivity improvements.

Validate billing accuracy and support commercial reconciliations.

Identify opportunities for additional services and revenue growth.

Team Leadership

Lead site managers, supervisors, and operational staff.

Develop employee capability through coaching and training.

Conduct performance reviews and succession planning.

Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with customer safety requirements and statutory regulations.

Maintain zero tolerance for unsafe practices.

Ensure adherence to quality systems and standard operating procedures.

Support internal and customer audits.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or Business Administration.

MBA or PG Diploma in Supply Chain/Operations preferred.

Experience

8–12 years of experience in logistics, warehouse, manufacturing, or supply chain operations.

Minimum 3–5 years in Key Account Management or Site Operations leadership.

Experience managing in-plant logistics for automotive, heavy engineering, earth-moving equipment, or industrial manufacturing customers is preferred.

Experience managing large teams and customer-facing operations.
