1. Job Purpose The Junior Civil Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the planning, execution, supervision, and monitoring of civil construction activities at project sites. The role requires strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, practical site execution skills, quality awareness, and the ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, vendors, and internal teams.
The candidate will ensure that construction work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, project schedules, and company requirements.
1. Key Responsibilities
A. Site Supervision & Execution
- Supervise day-to-day civil construction activities at the assigned project site.
- Monitor construction activities including excavation, PCC, RCC, reinforcement, shuttering, masonry, plastering, waterproofing, flooring, tiling, painting, and other finishing works.
- Ensure work is executed as per approved drawings, specifications, and instructions from senior engineers.
- Check the availability and proper utilization of manpower, materials, tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure timely completion of assigned activities.
- Monitor the progress of work and report delays, site issues, and constraints to the reporting manager.
- Ensure proper sequencing of construction activities to avoid unnecessary delays and rework.
B. Drawing & Technical Understanding
- Read and understand structural, architectural, civil, and service-related drawings.
- Verify dimensions, levels, alignments, locations, and other details before execution.
- Coordinate with senior engineers and consultants in case of discrepancies or missing information in drawings.
- Ensure that construction is carried out according to the latest approved drawings.
- Maintain proper records of drawings, revisions, instructions, and site-related documents.
- Assist in preparing basic quantity calculations and measurements from drawings.
C. Quality Control
- Ensure that construction work complies with approved specifications and required quality standards.
- Check reinforcement, shuttering, concrete, masonry, plastering, waterproofing, and finishing work before proceeding to the next stage.
- Assist in checking the quality of incoming construction materials.
- Coordinate with the quality-control team for inspections and testing.
- Ensure proper curing of concrete and masonry work.
- Identify defective or substandard work and immediately report it to the concerned senior.
- Monitor rectification and ensure that rejected or defective work is corrected properly.
- Minimize material wastage and prevent unnecessary rework.
D. Quantity & Measurement
- Assist in taking measurements of completed work executed by contractors.
- Prepare and maintain measurement records for civil works.
- Assist in checking contractor bills against actual site measurements.
- Verify quantities of materials consumed at the site.
- Assist in preparing basic BOQ quantities and material requirements.
- Maintain records of concrete, steel, cement, sand, blocks, tiles, and other construction materials.
- Monitor material consumption against approved quantities and identify unusual wastage.
E. Material Management
- Coordinate with the stores and purchase departments regarding material requirements.
- Check materials received at site for quantity and basic quality requirements.
- Ensure materials are used appropriately and wastage is controlled.
- Inform the senior engineer about upcoming material requirements to avoid work stoppage.
F. Contractor & Labour Coordination
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, supervisors, and skilled/unskilled workers.
- Allocate daily work activities as instructed by senior engineers.
- Monitor labour productivity and work progress.
- Maintain discipline and proper coordination among site workers.
- Report manpower shortages and productivity issues to the reporting manager.
- Ensure workers understand the required quality and execution standards.
- Coordinate with contractors for timely completion of assigned targets.
G. Safety Compliance
- Follow and promote all safety rules and procedures at the construction site.
- Ensure workers use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Immediately report unsafe working conditions, accidents, near misses, and hazards.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and safe movement of workers and materials.
- Coordinate with the safety team to address site safety observations.
- Never compromise safety for speed or project deadlines.
H. Daily Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily progress reports as required by the reporting manager.
- Record manpower deployment, material consumption, work progress, and major site activities.
- Maintain site photographs and progress documentation.
- Report any technical, manpower, material, quality, or coordination issues promptly.
- Maintain proper records of inspections, measurements, checklists, and site instructions.
- Assist senior engineers in preparing weekly and monthly project progress reports.

1. Required Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Civil Engineering.
- Candidates with relevant site experience will be preferred.
Experience:
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in residential and commercial construction is preferred.
