About EonForge Apex
EonForge Apex is developing a geothermal electricity system for low-temperature heat, combining a Nitinol thermomechanical engine, geothermal-fluid handling, mechanical transmission, power-generation concepts, and software-driven controls. We are moving from research toward a hardware validation program and prototype-class demonstrator.
The role
We’re looking for a hands-on hardware leader to own the hardware side of EonForge’s prototype development. You’ll work closely with our software co-CTO to build an integrated hardware-software engineering function and turn the technical concept into measurable test results.
What you’ll own
- Hardware architecture and system-level engineering decisions
- Mechanical, thermal, electrical, and instrumentation design for the prototype
- Nitinol thermal-engine development and test planning
- Integration of sensors, actuators, controls, power electronics, and data systems
- Engineering specifications, BOMs, drawings, test protocols, risk controls, and documentation
- Vendor, fabrication, laboratory, and testing coordination
- Hardware hiring and technical leadership as the team grows
- Prototype milestones, performance measurement, safety, reliability, and iteration
- Close integration with the software team on controls, data pipelines, and system validation
What we’re looking for
- Strong experience building and testing real hardware, preferably in energy, power systems, thermal systems, robotics, industrial equipment, or deep-tech products
- Ability to move from first principles and architecture to fabrication and experiments
- Working knowledge of mechanical, thermal, electrical, and embedded-system interfaces
- Comfort with ambiguity, incomplete data, and long hardware development cycles
- Strong technical judgment and disciplined documentation
- Ability to lead engineers while staying hands-on with the work
- A builder’s mindset and willingness to challenge assumptions with measured tests
Helpful but not required
- Experience with geothermal, heat-to-power, turbines, thermomechanical systems, shape-memory alloys, power electronics, MHD, or advanced materials
- Experience with prototype manufacturing, instrumentation, DAQ systems, FEA, CFD, controls, or industrial testing
- Experience taking deep-tech hardware from concept toward pilot readiness
- Background from a strong engineering program or R&D; environment
