Group Director – Software Engineering (Data Services Platform)

About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned engineering leader to build and scale enterprise Data Services platforms powering next-generation analytics, AI, and data-driven applications. This role will lead a large engineering organization responsible for Big Data platforms, Data Lake infrastructure, Data Warehousing, and Analytics services operating at exabyte scale across multi-cloud environments.

As the engineering leader, you will define the long-term technology vision, drive platform strategy, and lead the development of highly available, scalable, and cost-efficient data platforms. You will work at the intersection of Big Data, distributed systems, cloud platforms, platform engineering, and Generative AI to enable enterprise-wide data capabilities.

This is a highly strategic leadership role requiring strong technical depth, organizational leadership, and execution excellence.

Key Responsibilities

- Define and execute the technology vision and roadmap for enterprise Data Services platforms.
- Build and operate exabyte-scale Data Lake infrastructure across public and private cloud environments.
- Lead engineering teams responsible for Big Data processing, Data Warehousing, Analytics, and platform services.
- Drive platform scalability, reliability, performance, security, and operational excellence.
- Build platforms that enable Data Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning, and Business Analytics teams.
- Lead large-scale platform modernization and consolidation initiatives.




- Establish engineering best practices for architecture, observability, automation, resiliency, and service reliability.
- Drive infrastructure cost optimization and platform performance improvements.
- Define engineering metrics around availability, incident management, utilization, security, and operational health.
- Lead complex cross-functional programs and multi-year strategic initiatives.
- Hire, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering leaders and teams while building a strong leadership pipeline.
- Partner closely with Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and Business stakeholders to deliver enterprise-scale solutions.
- Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

- 18+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience leading large engineering organizations.
- Strong expertise in designing and operating enterprise-scale Data Lake and Big Data platforms.
- Deep knowledge of distributed data processing technologies including:
- Apache Spark
- Hadoop
- Apache Iceberg
- Apache Hudi
- Hive
- Apache Ranger
- Experience with enterprise Data Warehousing platforms such as BigQuery, Trino, or similar technologies.




- Strong understanding of cloud-native data platforms across Google Cloud, Azure, and/or private cloud environments.
- Experience operating mission-critical platforms with high availability, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Proven experience driving infrastructure optimization, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Strong program management skills with experience leading large cross-functional initiatives.
- Demonstrated success building and scaling high-performing engineering organizations.
- Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience building AI-ready or GenAI-enabled data platforms.
- Exposure to contemporary data architectures, platform engineering, and cloud-native ecosystems.
- Experience leading platform transformation initiatives at enterprise scale.
- Strong understanding of data governance, security, observability, and operational excellence.
