Database Operations &

- Support

- Manage and support production database instances across MSSQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, including day-to-day operations, incident and problem management (L2 escalations from L1), and RCA within defined SLAs.

- Perform database installation, configuration, patching, and version upgrades including compatibility checks, rollback strategy, and minimizing downtime during upgrades.

- Monitor database health, performance, and capacity, tablespace/datafile growth, transaction log usage, connection pools, and resource utilization.

- Manage backup and recovery strategy across all database engines (native backup tools, RMAN, pg_dump/pg_basebackup, mysqldump/XtraBackup), including scheduling, validation, and restore testing.

- Configure and manage high availability and replication, Always On/Failover Clustering (MSSQL), Data Guard/RAC (Oracle), Streaming Replication/Patroni (PostgreSQL), and Replication/Group Replication (MySQL).

- Perform routine maintenance activities, index rebuilds/reorgs, statistics updates, vacuuming (PostgreSQL), and job/scheduler management.

Troubleshooting

- Diagnose and resolve performance issues slow-running queries, blocking/locking, deadlocks, and execution plan regressions across all four database engines.

- Troubleshoot connectivity issues listener/service failures, connection pool exhaustion, authentication errors, and network-related timeouts.

- Debug replication and high-availability failures replication lag, broken Always On/Data Guard sync, failover issues, and split-brain scenarios.

- Investigate storage and capacity issues tempdb/undo/redo growth, tablespace/datafile exhaustion, disk latency, and log/WAL file bloat.

- Troubleshoot job/scheduler failures — SQL Agent jobs, Oracle scheduler,

cron-based PostgreSQL/MySQL maintenance jobs, and ETL-related database errors.

- Perform root cause analysis for recurring incidents and drive permanent fixes in coordination with L3/Architecture and Application teams.

Security &

- Access

- Implement and manage database security — user/role management, least-privilege access, and authentication mechanisms (SQL/Windows auth, Oracle wallets, PostgreSQL/MySQL roles).

- Support data encryption (TDE, column-level encryption), auditing, and integration with enterprise secret/credential stores (Vault, Key Vault, CyberArk).

- Manage database-level network security — firewall rules, listener security, and SSL/TLS configuration for database connections.

- Ensure compliance with patch SLAs, vulnerability remediation timelines, data retention policies, and audit/regulatory requirements.

Platform &

- Automation

- Contribute to platform design decisions — database architecture, capacity planning, HA/DR strategy, and standardization across engines.

- Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting (T-SQL, PL/SQL, PL/pgSQL, Bash/Python) and scheduling tools.

- Work with monitoring and observability tools (SQL Monitor, OEM, pgAdmin/pganalyze, Percona Monitoring, Grafana) for proactive health and performance monitoring.

- Support database provisioning and configuration management for cloud and on-prem environments,

including cloud-managed database services (Azure SQL/Managed Instance, RDS, Cloud SQL) where applicable.

- Document runbooks, SOPs, architecture diagrams, and knowledge base articles for recurring issues.

- Participate in on-call rotation and support during planned maintenance/outages.

Required Skills &

- Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).

- 4 to 8 years of hands-on experience in database administration across MSSQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL (proficiency across multiple engines expected).

- Solid command over database installation, configuration, backup/recovery, and patching across the supported engines.

- Deep troubleshooting experience across query performance, replication/HA, storage, and connectivity.

- Solid understanding of database security concepts, access control, encryption, and auditing.

- Working knowledge of scripting/query languages (T-SQL, PL/SQL, PL/pgSQL) for troubleshooting and automation.

Preferred / Good to Have

- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or equivalent PostgreSQL/MySQL certifications.

- Experience with database migration and upgrade projects across heterogeneous engines.

- Exposure on cloud-managed database platforms (Azure SQL, AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL).

- Knowledge of database performance tuning tools and query optimization techniques.

- Experience with containerized/Kubernetes-hosted databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/MySQL operators).

- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) for database provisioning and configuration.
