Job Profile: Construction Engineer Substation Projects (PMC Role)

Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering

Experience: 812 years of relevant experience in construction and site execution of 400 kV and above substation projects.

Role Purpose The Construction Engineer will represent the Project Management Consultant at site, monitoring and coordinating civil construction works for 400 kV and above substation projects. The role focuses on EPC/contractor oversight, execution readiness, progress tracking, compliance with approved drawings, quality and safety requirements, client support, and early identification of site risks.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as PMC site representative for 400 kV and above substation civil works, including equipment foundations, control room, cable trenches, roads, drains, boundary wall, and related infrastructure.
- Monitor EPC contractor performance against approved drawings, schedules, method statements, quality, safety, and contractual requirements.
- Review construction readiness, including drawings, materials, manpower, tools, equipment, access, and clearances.
- Verify civil execution such as excavation, reinforcement, shuttering, concreting, backfilling, grouting, finishing, and embedded items as per specifications and safety norms.
- Coordinate civil interfaces with electrical erection, switchyard layout, transformer/reactor foundations, gantry structures, cable routing, earthing, and control building works.




- Identify delays, constraints, quality deviations, safety observations, interface gaps, and statutory/local issues, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate with client, EPC contractor, engineering, quality, safety, vendors, local administration, and stakeholders for issue resolution.
- Participate in inspections, progress reviews, joint measurements, safety walks, material checks, and contractor coordination meetings.
- Review contractor submissions, reports, measurements, inspection requests, quality records, test reports, and construction documentation before client forwarding.
- Maintain PMC records, track risks and critical activities, support recovery planning, and assist in final inspection, punch closure, handover, and completion certification.

Required Experience and Exposure

- Hands-on site experience in 400 kV and above AIS/GIS substation projects, preferably with exposure to PMC, client-side, EPC, or owners engineer roles.

Preferred Candidate Profile The ideal candidate should be a Civil Engineering graduate with 812 years of proven site execution experience in 400 kV and above substation projects. The candidate should have handled civil works for switchyard and control building infrastructure and be capable of supporting PMC oversight through quality, safety, schedule monitoring, documentation, and stakeholder coordination.
