Job Title: BIW Design Engineer This role focuses on the design and development of Body-in-White (BIW) structures, with a particular emphasis on sheet metal components, closures, and structural parts for automotive applications.

You will use UG NX to create and modify complex surface and solid models, ensuring designs meet manufacturability, packaging, styling, and CAE requirements. The position requires close collaboration with body engineering and CAE teams to deliver robust, high-quality BIW designs that comply with design standards, GD&T; practices, and virtual validation criteria.

Responsibilities

- Design sheet metal parts for automotive Body-in-White structures, including doors, closures, and structural components.
- Modify BIW parts based on feedback related to manufacturing feasibility, packaging constraints, styling requirements, and CAE analysis results.
- Support the body engineering team in delivering BIW design projects on time and to the required quality standards.
- Create parametric surface models of closure parts, including outer skin, inner panels, and inner reinforcement parts, in line with packaging requirements and established design standards.
- Apply GD&T; principles to components and assemblies to ensure proper fit, function, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with CAE teams to perform virtual analysis and ensure designs meet DVP&R; and DFMEA requirements.
- Incorporate forming, manufacturability, and assembly considerations into the design to optimize production and performance.
- Use PDM systems, such as Teamcenter, to manage CAD data, maintain version control, and support configuration management.
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements, address design issues, and implement improvements.
- Adhere to internal CAD methodologies and best practices throughout the design and documentation process.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- 3–6 years of experience in automotive Body-in-White (BIW) part design, specifically in doors, closures, and structural components.
- Hands-on experience with BIW structures design in UG NX, including part, surface, and assembly design.
- Strong knowledge of Body-in-White parts, including side wall, body upper, and joining techniques.
- Proficiency in surface modeling using UG NX for BIW components.
- Knowledge of forming, manufacturability, and assembly processes for sheet metal parts.
- Working knowledge of GD&T; with the ability to apply it effectively to components and assemblies.
- Experience using PDM systems, particularly Teamcenter, for managing design data.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with engineering, CAE, and other cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Previous experience with Daimler CAD methodology (MBRDI) is an added advantage.
- Experience in supporting DVP&R; and DFMEA through virtual analysis in collaboration with CAE teams.
- Familiarity with automotive design standards and packaging requirements for closures and BIW components.
- Ability to create robust parametric models that support design changes and variant management.
- Attention to detail and a strong focus on quality and design robustness.

Work Workplace You will work in an engineering-focused environment that relies heavily on UG NX and Teamcenter for BIW design and data management. The role involves close collaboration with body engineering and CAE teams, requiring regular communication and coordination to align design, analysis, and manufacturing requirements. The work is primarily CAD- and analysis-driven, with a strong emphasis on virtual validation, adherence to design standards, and structured CAD methodologies. Expect a professional setting where precision, documentation, and cross-functional teamwork are central to daily activities. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
