Position : BI & Data Engineer

Location : Bangalore, INDIA

1. OBJECTIVE / PURPOSE OF JOB The BI & Data Engineer designs, builds, and delivers complete business intelligence solutions from source to dashboard. Data is sourced from the organizations SAP landscape (SAP ECC today, transitioning to SAP S/4HANA), integrated and modelled on Microsoft Azure and SQL Server, and delivered to the business through Power BI.

The role owns the full BI lifecycle: understanding the SAP data model, ingesting and transforming data on Azure, building governed data models, and developing advanced Power BI reporting. It also supports the modernization of the BI landscape and the migration of legacy reporting to Power BI, while standardizing KPIs across the business. The BI & Data Engineer collaborates closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and leadership to ensure scalable, accurate, and future-ready analytics solutions.

MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS (MANDATORY)

Candidates must demonstrate hands-on, verifiable experience in all four areas below. These are non-negotiable screening criteria.

SAP ECC / S/4HANA knowledge solid understanding of SAP ECC and S/4HANA data models, table structures, and CDS views, and the ability to source and interpret business data correctly (functional understanding of SD / MM / FI-CO data is an advantage).

SQL Server – strong hands-on SQL Server development, including advanced T-SQL, stored procedures, views, and query performance tuning against large datasets.

Azure – hands-on experience building data solutions on Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL / Synapse, and/or Microsoft Fabric) for ingestion and transformation.

Power BI development – advanced, hands-on Power BI development including DAX, semantic / tabular data modelling, star-schema design, and report performance optimization (building solutions, not merely viewing dashboards).

2. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES (ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

Gather, define,



and refine reporting and analytics requirements with business stakeholders.

Analyse and interpret data structures within SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA, including CDS views and core tables.

Build and maintain pipelines that ingest SAP and other source data into Azure / SQL Server.

Develop and optimize data transformations and models on Azure and SQL Server, from raw data to analytics-ready datasets.

Design, develop, and enhance governed semantic models and advanced dashboards in Power BI (DAX, tabular models).

Support the migration of legacy reporting (SAP BusinessObjects / Qlik) to Power BI, following best practices.

Validate and reconcile data across SAP source, Azure / SQL Server, and Power BI to ensure consistency and trust in reporting.

Define, standardize, and govern KPIs and business metrics.

Ensure data quality through robust validation, reconciliation, and exception-handling.

Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex data and reporting issues, providing root cause analysis.

Document data models, pipelines, KPIs, business logic, and data sources.

Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in BI development and analytics.

Maintain awareness of BI trends and recommend improvements.

3. EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Required

Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science,

Engineering, or a related field.

5-8+ years of experience in BI / data development, including end-to-end solution delivery.

SAP ECC & S/4HANA data models – mandatory (table structures, CDS views, business data relationships).

SQL Server – mandatory (advanced T-SQL, performance tuning).

Microsoft Azure – mandatory (Data Factory, Data Lake,



Azure SQL / Synapse and/or Fabric).

Power BI development – mandatory (DAX, semantic models, performance optimization).

Strong dimensional data-modelling and data-warehousing skills.

Demonstrated experience in data validation, reconciliation, and cross-system consistency checks.

Proven ability to define, implement, and govern KPIs and business performance metrics.

Desirable

Experience extracting SAP data into the cloud (CDS / ODP / SLT / OData, ADF SAP connectors, or tools such as Theobald / Fivetran).

Familiarity with the existing SAP BusinessObjects / Qlik landscape, to support migration.

Python / PySpark for Synapse or Fabric notebooks; Git / CI-CD for data and analytics.

Experience working in BI transformation or platform-modernization projects.

Familiarity with data governance, data privacy, and security best practices.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS

Employment Type: Full-time position.

Work Environment: Hybrid work model with a combination of remote work and in-office presence (depending on company policy and project needs).

Location: Bangalore, India.

Work Hours: Standard business hours, with occasional flexibility required to meet deadlines or support international teams.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required for team meetings, workshops, or collaboration with other offices.

Equipment: Company laptop and necessary software/tools will be provided.
