Analyst – Deal Sourcing & Investment AnalysisRole Overview The Analyst will support the fund in identifying, screening, evaluating, and executing investment opportunities.
The role combines proactive deal sourcing with detailed business, market, financial, and competitive analysis. The selected candidate will interact with founders, startup ecosystem participants, industry experts, advisors, and other investors.
The Analyst will work closely with the fund’s Partners and investment team throughout the investment process—from identifying an opportunity and conducting the initial assessment to due diligence, Investment Committee evaluation, transaction execution, and portfolio monitoring.
Key Responsibilities1. Deal Sourcing and Origination
- Identify promising startups and founders within the fund’s target sectors and investment strategy.
- Proactively source investment opportunities through research, databases, industry networks, startup events, incubators, accelerators, angel investors, advisors, and other ecosystem participants.
- Develop and maintain relationships with founders, investors, investment bankers, accelerators, incubators, universities, and industry professionals.
- Attend startup events, conferences, demo days, pitch sessions, and networking forums.
- Track emerging sectors, technologies, business models, and investment themes.
- Build sector maps and identify companies that may fit the fund’s investment mandate.
- Maintain an organised and updated pipeline of potential investment opportunities.
- Follow up with founders and intermediaries to obtain relevant information and documents.
1. Initial Screening of Investment Opportunities
- Review pitch decks, business plans, financial information, cap tables, and other materials submitted by prospective portfolio companies.
- Conduct preliminary discussions with founders to understand the business, product, market opportunity, growth plans, funding requirements, and use of proceeds.
- Evaluate whether opportunities are aligned with the fund’s investment thesis, sector focus, stage, ticket size, and return expectations.
- Assess the quality and experience of founding teams.
- Prepare preliminary screening notes and recommendations for the investment team.
- Maintain timely and professional communication with founders throughout the screening process.
1. Investment Research and Analysis
- Conduct detailed research on industries, markets, technologies, regulatory developments, and competitive landscapes.
- Analyse business models, revenue drivers, customer segments, distribution channels, competitive positioning, and scalability.
- Evaluate market size using top-down and bottom-up approaches.
- Review financial statements, management accounts, projections, and operating metrics.
- Analyse unit economics, customer acquisition costs, customer lifetime value, margins, burn rate, runway, working capital requirements, and capital efficiency.
- Build financial models and prepare base-case, upside, and downside scenarios.
- Conduct comparable-company and precedent-transaction analysis.
- Assess proposed valuations and potential investment returns.
- Identify key commercial, financial, operational, regulatory, technology, governance,
and execution risks.
1. Due Diligence
- Support commercial, financial, operational, technology, legal, tax, and regulatory due diligence.
- Prepare due-diligence checklists and track information requests.
- Review data-room documents and identify inconsistencies, gaps, and areas requiring further clarification.
- Conduct customer, supplier, employee, founder, and industry reference checks where appropriate.
- Coordinate with external legal, financial, tax, technology, and sector advisors.
- Document key findings, risks, mitigants, and unresolved matters.
- Ensure that investment documentation and supporting records are appropriately maintained.
1. Investment Committee Support
- Prepare investment notes, screening reports, sector reports, and detailed Investment Committee memoranda.
- Summarise the investment thesis, business model, market opportunity, financial performance, valuation, potential returns, key risks, and proposed mitigants.
- Prepare presentations, financial analyses, and supporting materials for Investment Committee meetings.
- Participate in internal investment discussions and founder presentations.
- Record questions, observations, decisions, and follow-up actions arising from Investment Committee meetings.
- Support the investment team in responding to additional information requests from the Investment Committee.
1. Transaction Execution
- Assist in valuation analysis, investment structuring, and preparation of term sheets.
- Support negotiations relating to commercial and financial terms.
- Coordinate with founders, advisors, lawyers, and other stakeholders during transaction execution.
- Track conditions precedent, closing deliverables, approvals, and documentation.
- Support the completion of investment and compliance records.
1. Portfolio Monitoring and Support
- Collect and analyse periodic financial and operational information from portfolio companies.
- Track agreed key performance indicators, milestones, cash runway, and business performance.
- Prepare portfolio monitoring reports and internal review presentations.
- Support follow-on investment evaluations.
- Assist portfolio companies with market research, fundraising materials, business analysis, and strategic initiatives where required.
- Track developments that could affect portfolio companies, including changes in markets, competition, regulation, and technology.
1. Investment Knowledge and Database Management
- Maintain the fund’s deal pipeline, founder database, sector research, comparable transactions, and investment records.
- Ensure that interactions, documents, decisions, and follow-up actions are accurately recorded in the fund’s CRM or deal-management system.
- Develop internal knowledge resources covering sectors, companies, investors, valuation benchmarks, and market trends.
- Use technology and AI-assisted research tools to improve the speed and quality of investment analysis while independently verifying important conclusions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, or another relevant discipline.
- Professional qualifications such as CA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent would be advantageous but are not mandatory.
- Up to three years of relevant experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, equity research, management consulting, transaction advisory, corporate finance, startup operations, or a related field.
- Exceptional fresh graduates with solid analytical skills and demonstrated interest in startups and investing may also be considered.

- Familiarity with startup and investment databases such as Tracxn, Venture Intelligence, Crunchbase, PitchBook, or similar platforms would be advantageous.
- Ability to use AI and productivity tools responsibly for research, analysis, and documentation.
