Senior Database Administrator

LOCATION: Vadodara, India
ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, security, and performance optimization of enterprise database environments. The role ensures database availability, integrity, scalability, and compliance while supporting business-critical applications and data management initiatives. The incumbent will lead database administration activities, disaster recovery planning, data warehousing initiatives, and database consolidation projects to support organizational growth and operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain database software to ensure optimal performance, stability, and security.

Design and implement logical and physical database architectures, schemas, tables, indexes, and relationships aligned with business and application requirements.
—
Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries, indexing strategies, memory utilization, and storage resources.
—
Develop, implement, and regularly test database backup and recovery procedures to ensure business continuity and data protection.
—
Manage database security through authentication mechanisms, role-based access control, encryption, auditing, and compliance with organizational policies.
—
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, consistency, and availability through validation rules, constraints, replication, and failover solutions.
—
Perform capacity planning and storage management to support current and future database workloads.
—
Design, implement, and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery solutions including clustering, replication, and failover configurations.
—
Manage database changes, schema modifications, and migrations in accordance with established change management processes.
—
Proactively monitor database environments, investigate alerts, perform root cause analysis, and resolve incidents within defined service levels.
—
Support internal and external audit requirements and ensure adherence to regulatory and compliance standards.
—
Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, recovery plans, and operational standards.
—
Collaborate with application developers, business analysts, and technical teams to optimize database design and performance.
—
Administer and maintain reporting servers to ensure reliable report generation and distribution.
—
Design, develop, and manage enterprise data warehouse environments.
—
Establish and manage data archival and retention strategies.
—
Lead database server consolidation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce infrastructure costs.
—
Implement encryption controls for Personally Identifiable Information (PII) beyond Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators and support staff.

Lead database-related projects and coordinate activities with cross-functional teams.
—
Establish database administration standards, procedures, and best practices.
SKILLS:

Strong expertise in database administration and management.
—
Advanced knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization.
—
Experience with backup, recovery, replication, clustering, and high-availability solutions.
—
Knowledge of database security, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements.
—
Experience with data warehouse architecture and reporting platforms.
—
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
—
Understanding of capacity planning and database infrastructure management.
—
Excellent documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
—
Experience with database migration and consolidation projects.
—
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage critical incidents effectively.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
—
10+ years of hands-on experience in database administration and support.
—
Experience administering enterprise-level database environments.
—
Strong understanding of database architecture, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
—
Experience supporting mission-critical applications and large-scale databases.
—
Knowledge of data governance, security standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write emails,
speeches and articles using original or creative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and clients.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:

Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
—
Oracle Database Administration Certification (OCP/OCA).
—
Microsoft SQL Server Certifications.
—
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent security certification (preferred).
—
Relevant cloud database certifications from AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
