Nursing Superintendent

Department:Nursing Services

Reporting To:Medical Director / Chief Executive Officer / Hospital Administrator

Location:Mind & Brain Hospital, Bengaluru

Employment Type:Full time

Working Hours

- 9 Hours per Day
- 6 Days per Week
- On-call availability for nursing and emergency services as per hospital requirements.

Qualification

- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (Mandatory)
- M.Sc. Nursing (Preferred)
- Valid Karnataka State Nursing Council (KSNC) Registration.

Experience

- Minimum 8–10 years of clinical nursing experience.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience in psychiatric, multispecialty, or NABH-accredited hospitals is preferred.

Job Summary

The Nursing Superintendent is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and evaluating all nursing services within the hospital. The role ensures high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, nursing staff management, infection control, and implementation of NABH standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesNursing Administration

- Plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate all nursing activities.
- Ensure adequate nursing manpower and duty roster management.
- Monitor nursing care quality and patient safety.
- Ensure smooth functioning of OPD, IPD, ICU, Emergency, and specialty units.
- Supervise Nursing Supervisors, Staff Nurses, and Nursing Assistants.

Clinical Responsibilities

- Ensure implementation of nursing protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor medication administration and patient care practices.
- Participate in patient rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Ensure prompt response to medical emergencies and code situations.

Staffing & HR Responsibilities

- Recruit, orient, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff.
- Conduct induction and competency assessments for new nurses.
- Prepare monthly duty rosters and leave schedules.
- Monitor attendance, discipline, punctuality, and staff performance.
- Identify training needs and support staff development.





Quality & NABH Compliance

- Ensure compliance with NABH, KPME, and hospital quality standards.
- Participate in internal audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor nursing documentation and patient records.
- Ensure incident reporting and corrective action implementation.

Infection Prevention & Control

- Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines.
- Monitor hand hygiene, biomedical waste segregation, and aseptic practices.
- Coordinate infection control surveillance and staff education.

Patient Safety & Risk Management

- Promote safe medication practices.
- Investigate patient incidents and nursing-related complaints.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Ensure emergency preparedness within nursing services.

Training & Education

- Conduct regular nursing education programs, CMEs, and skill-based workshops.
- Train staff on emergency response, BLS, ACLS (where applicable), aggression management, and psychiatric nursing care.
- Guide student nurses and nursing interns.

Documentation

- Maintain nursing records, staffing reports, incident reports, audit reports, and performance evaluations.
- Ensure timely submission of departmental reports to management.

Coordination

- Collaborate with doctors, psychologists, pharmacists, rehabilitation teams, HR, quality, and administration.
- Participate in hospital committees and quality meetings.
