Planning Manager – EPC WTP Projects

Role Overview

The Planning Manager develops and controls the complete project schedule for Water Treatment Plant projects, ensuring execution within contractual timelines, budget, and resource targets.

The role coordinates among:

- Engineering
- Procurement
- Construction
- Client/Consultant
- Vendors/Subcontractors
- Commissioning teams

Typical project types:

- WTP (Water Treatment Plant)
- STP (Sewage Treatment Plant)
- ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant)
- RO/UF/Desalination Plants
- Pumping stations & pipelines

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Scheduling

- Prepare:
- Baseline schedules
- Master schedules
- Look-ahead plans
- Recovery schedules

- Develop project timelines using:

- Primavera P6
- MS Project

- Define:

- WBS (Work Breakdown Structure)
- Activity sequencing
- Critical path

Typical EPC phases covered:

- Engineering
- Procurement
- Manufacturing
- Delivery
- Civil execution
- Mechanical erection
- Electrical & instrumentation
- Testing & commissioning

2. Progress Monitoring

- Track:
- Daily/weekly/monthly progress
- Productivity
- Resource deployment

- Prepare:

- DPR/WPR/MPR reports
- S-curves
- Histograms
- Earned Value reports

- Compare planned vs actual progress

3. Delay Analysis & Recovery Planning

- Identify:
- Delays
- Bottlenecks
- Critical activities

- Conduct:

- Delay analysis
- Impact assessment
- Mitigation planning

- Prepare:

- Catch-up schedules
- Acceleration plans

Coordination with Departments

Coordinate with:

- Engineering team for drawing releases
- Procurement for material delivery
- Site team for execution progress
- QA/QC for inspections
- Commercial team for billing milestones

5. Client & Management Reporting

- Present progress review reports
- Attend review meetings
- Prepare dashboards and MIS
- Support claims/EOT documentation

6. Resource & Cost Monitoring

- Monitor:
- Manpower
- Equipment
- Material availability

- Support cost control through schedule integration
- Forecast completion timelines
