Job Title: - Lab Technician (PU Foam Testing)

Department: - Quality Control (QC)

Job Purpose

To perform physical and quality testing of PU foam products, ensure compliance with customer specifications, applicable BIS standards, and the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, while maintaining accurate laboratory records and supporting continuous quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Perform testing of PU foam samples as per approved test methods and customer specifications.

Conduct testing for:

Density

Hardness (Indentation Force Deflection – IFD)

Compression Set

Tensile Strength

Elongation at Break

Resilience (Ball Rebound)

Tear Strength

Dimensional Accuracy

Weight and Visual Inspection

Verify incoming raw materials and finished PU foam products as required.

Prepare and maintain laboratory test reports, inspection records, and certificates.

Ensure proper sample identification, traceability, and retention.

Calibrate and maintain laboratory testing equipment according to the calibration schedule.

Report non-conforming materials and products and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Maintain laboratory housekeeping in accordance with 5S practices.

Follow all laboratory safety procedures and use appropriate PPE.

BIS Standards Knowledge

The job holder shall have working knowledge of the following BIS standards (as applicable):

IS 7888 – Versatile Polyurethane Foam for Upholstery Purposes – Specification.

IS 17339 – Flexible Polyurethane Foam for Mattresses – Specification.

Understanding of BIS product marking, sampling, inspection, and documentation requirements.

ISO Responsibilities

Follow the requirements of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.





Comply with approved SOPs, Work Instructions, and Quality Plans.

Maintain accurate quality records and laboratory documentation.

Support Internal Audits, Customer Audits, and Certification Audits.

Participate in corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities.

Ensure traceability of test samples and test results.

Required Knowledge

PU Foam manufacturing process.

Laboratory testing methods for flexible PU foam.

BIS standards applicable to PU foam and mattresses.

ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Calibration of laboratory equipment.

Statistical Quality Control (SQC) is an added advantage.

Skills

Strong analytical and observation skills.

Attention to detail.

Good documentation practices.

Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word.

Good communication and teamwork.

Educational Qualification

Diploma/B.Sc. (Chemistry, Physics, Polymer Science) or B.Tech./Diploma in Chemical, Polymer, or Mechanical Engineering.

Experience

1–3 years in PU Foam Testing / QA / QC Laboratory.

Experience in BIS and ISO-compliant manufacturing is preferred.

Safety Responsibilities

Wear prescribed PPE at all times.

Follow laboratory safety procedures.

Handle testing equipment and chemicals safely.

Report unsafe conditions immediately.

Pay: ₹300,000.00 - ₹420,000.00 per year
