Job Description: Consultant – Surgical Gastroenterology

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Consultant / Senior Consultant in Surgical Gastroenterology to join our premier medical team. The ideal candidate will specialize in the surgical management of diseases affecting the digestive tract, liver, pancreas, and biliary system. This role involves performing complex open, laparoscopic, and robotic GI surgeries, providing exceptional patient care, and driving clinical excellence within the department.

Key Responsibilities

- Clinical & Surgical Care:

- Diagnose and perform complex surgical procedures on the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, rectum, and anus).

- Perform HPB (Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary) surgeries involving the liver, pancreas, gall bladder, and bile ducts.

- Utilize advanced minimally invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and/or robotic-assisted surgeries.

- Outpatient & Inpatient Management:

- Conduct outpatient consultations, perform thorough pre-operative evaluations, and manage post-operative care and rehabilitation.

- Manage emergency GI surgical cases, including bowel obstructions, perforations, GI bleeding, and abdominal trauma.

- Collaborative Care:





- Work closely with Medical Gastroenterologists, Oncologists, Radiologists, and Pathologists in a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to design comprehensive treatment plans, especially for GI oncology patients.

- Quality & Safety:

- Maintain the highest standards of patient safety, clinical protocols, and quality indicators.

- Participate in clinical audits, mortality/morbidity reviews, and continuous medical education (CME) initiatives.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

- Educational Qualifications:

- M.Ch in Surgical Gastroenterology OR DNB in Surgical Gastroenterology.

- Alternative: MS in General Surgery with extensive, documented fellowship training and dedicated long-term experience exclusively in GI / HPB surgery.

- Experience:

- Typically 3 to 10+ years of post-super-specialization experience (customizable based on seniority required).

- Technical Skills:

- Proven expertise in advanced laparoscopic GI procedures.

- Strong diagnostic acumen and decision-making skills under emergency pressure.

- Excellent manual dexterity and physical stamina for long surgical procedures.

- Soft Skills:

- Compassionate bedside manner with robust communication and interpersonal skills.

- Leadership qualities to guide junior residents, fellows, and nursing staff.
