Sacred Origins & Divine Legacy
Jagannath Puri represents the eastern anchor of the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. According to the Skanda Purana, Lord Vishnu appeared in his Nila Madhava form to King Indradyumna, who then established the temple housing the iconic wooden forms of Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra. The temple's architecture rises 214 feet with the Nila Chakra visible from miles away. The annual Rath Yatra sees three colossal chariots carrying the deities through streets filled with millions of devotees.
