Job Description:
Department: CNC / Precision Machining
Location: Thirumudivakkam
Reports To: Production Supervisor / Plant Head
Experience Required: Minimum 4 years in VMC operation and setting
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced VMC Operator cum Setter with 4+ years of hands-on experience in precision machining.
The role involves complete responsibility for machine setup, program verification, part inspection, and achieving production targets with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in 3-axis & 4-axis is essential; experience with 5-axis machines is an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently set up and operate Vertical Machining Centres (VMC) including 3-axis & 4-axis machines based on job drawings and specifications.
- Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and cutting parameters to optimize machining efficiency and part quality.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings (GD&T; knowledge preferred).
- Load and edit CNC programs as required (Fanuc / Siemens / Mitsubishi or other controllers).
- Perform first piece inspection and approve for production after quality verification.
- Monitor machine operation and make tool offset adjustments as needed.
- Conduct in-process and final inspection using precision instruments (micrometer, vernier, height gauge, etc.).
- Ensure minimal machine downtime by performing routine checks and basic preventive maintenance.
- Coordinate with the quality team in case of deviations or process issues.
- Maintain proper documentation of production data, tool usage, and inspection reports.
- Follow 5S, safety, and lean manufacturing practices on the shop floor.
- Support junior operators/setters and assist in training if needed.
Candidate Profile:
Qualification: ITI / Diploma in Mechanical / Tool & Die / Production or related trade.
Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience in VMC machine setup and operation.
Skills:
Strong expertise in 3-axis & 4-axis VMC operation and setting
Experience with 5-axis machining is a plus
